Think the little silver MK1 Eunos I used to sprint/hillclimb had a red band starting a little higher on the rev counter? It’s that a UKDM slightly lower rev limit? OOOH. I'd never considered different revcounters, the mph / kmph thing is obvious but theres so many subtle differences UK & J dm and thats not considering Miata (USDM) or row production spec ABS, HRW & foglights being some of the 'extras'.... I've a few clusters (wouldn't you guess?) so I'll dig them up & have a looksee.... ^^ suppose it's an excuse for another photo Rich.

Okey, dug up a few clusters.... so NA Eunos revcounters have a higher marked redline (7,200rpm) compared to UK spec Mx5 (6,500rpm)... theres also white & 'red' (ish) needles on the gauges whatever that means? I've a few other clusters in the cars, the white '90 is untouched standard as far as I know & the silver '91 heap has been altered somewhat so thats not good as a guide (although those red / rising-sun dial-faces were in it when bought - previous owners 'work' maybe? will photograph alter for comparison purposes... Rich.

revcounters..... Eunos on left, Mx5 on right. same circuit board... early clusters, the top one I retro-fitted in my silver '91 car but it's been hacked around somewhet... both have 120mph speedo faces but iirc the top one was from a UK spec Mx5 and I swapped the speedo as I wasn't sure on the gearing / reading (not a prolem I now know) rear circuit foils. another different circuit foil. cannot remember what it's from though! the 'foils' are numbered (on left) but what do they refer to? they have different combinations of resistors soldered to their rear so drop power to gauges? adjusted to fit the "Elliot' / Eacers choice telltale revcounter. early (1990) Eunos cluster speedo face. 120mph speedo from rear, believe this was a kmh speedo that had an mph face fitted when imported - hence no 'Yazaki' part number... as an aside, I've no idea what this refers to, maybe 110 & 120 mph? (although they would have been made as kmh so 180?) Rich.

Could be mph, but looking at mine it's "NO26 319-010" (120mph, 7200rpm).

think the 120mph speedo is just aftermarket conversion face replacing the 180km/h origonal when the 'Grey-import' Roadsters were imported, UK cars had 140mph
Rich.

decided to compare the 180km/h & 140mph speedo units. number 3 & 4 @ top and different numbers @ bottom right. rear of faces have different cable/rotation to speed ratios, admittedly 60kmh is ~40mph so not realy comparable... rear of a 120mph speedo. the (badly drawn) arrow points to the speed-limiter terminals on the Eunos / jdm kmh speedo, easily defeated by removing one or both screws that connect through the cluster case to the circuit film... Rich.

Hi Rich,
Does the work Cleptomaniac mean anything to you !?!
I suspect the ECU rev limit is the difference between UK and JDM revcounters, I have fitted a UK cluster into the Mongrel with the 140 Mph speedo face.
Thanks for posting this.

I use to have about 1 1/2 tons of Austin Seven Spares inherited from my Dad. I have sold some of it to re invest in the Austin. I have a few bits of Eunos littering up the garage from the R Ltd I stripped for parts to build the Mongrel.

Kleptomaniac is tad harsh Dickie, I don’t think he nicked the bits, just can’t bear to be parted from them 🙄

I'm dyslexic (seriously!) and type something then use google search to check suspect spellin.... and care of school had an 'E' in cdt and an 'F' in metalwork..... you'll notice the line-spacing....... anyway.... jumping back onto (into?) oil systems again. I'd won a used Mocal oil catchcan on ebay, 20 days later it's been delivered... - post marked as sent 2 days ago anyway, this is the 2L size & will happily fit on the passanger side bulkhead between the origonal Mazda screenwash reservoir's mount & the wipermotor... although I'm moving the wipermotor to the driversside but thats another story..... has an AN8 fitting for plumbing and another port with a blanking-plug. interestingly these are advertised as having the option of either left or right-handed 'sight-gauge' fitment but this is missing it's lower threadded boss... theres a vented 'filler' ( ) cap on topand a drain-plug on the base. BUT, I'm not sure on it's relavance with the drysump system, I'll have to reserch some as if it's not needed then can be sold off or used on something else more junk in the 'Hoard'... Rich.
