time for another tangent.... bought a pair of wheels... 'Viking' germany? supposedly from a UK spec 'SE' and have the correct spiggot / centre-bore for the Mazda hub so usefull, also reasonabally light for a 7" rim (with used Pilotsport3 tyres fitted, maybe usable for road hooning?) 7x15 & et30? had to try one on the silver heap.... fill the arch nicely without being something that will rub the arch lip! decided to try the Wilwood / Supermiata Boxmount in for spoke clearance. from the rear.... clearance is clearance? still clears. maybe a small (~3mm?) wheelspacer to allow for error & it'll be fine theres probably more to say but...... Rich.

That will be fine, the fitment on my OE subaru brembos and wheels is a similar. I think if your calipers move that much then you have bigger problems PS. I think you need to break out the weedkiller on the rear bumper

I think you need to break out the weedkiller on the rear bumper I'm going to use a thin spacer to gain a few mm as it won't hurt as to the undergrowth, thats my attempt at offsetting the imaginary carbon futprunt for gReTa et al. Rich.

so, more ebay stupidity found a pair of Hispec Ultralite 2 SVA 2 piston rear calipers with a mecanical 'spot' handbrake mec. www.hispeccalipers.co.uk/svaultralite.htmlthese are to fit 'Golf' carrier / bolt spacing, an sva legal handbrake mec and are 'Westfield' branded so have kitcar history... the pair I bought were used, one had an issue - someone had snapped a bleed-nipple and attempted removal by welding and failed / quit... what I was greeted with. doesnt look any better up-close... so, die-grinder with a parallel burr to the rescue. no photo of the aprez-grinding of the 'WeLd' but this is the first try @ building weld on the nipple & sticking a bolt to it in the hope of removal. so, it snapped off was expecting this as the origonal 'WeLd' hadn't fused with the nipple (luckily) closeup shows the thin profile of the nipple where the thread shows above the inner core, this means I have access to weld to the core for a stronger bond - useful as people overtighten nipples into their taper-sealing seats and combined with the softer aluminium of the caliper body this can create a tight interface to release from... second attempt, I'd built weld-metal onto the nipple stub and then used the 'hot-glue' to add a bolt.. and its out looks big in the photo but the bolt is 8mm diameter thread and the nipple is 7mm diameter. the caliper aluminium body, aside from some grind-marks / damage to the black powdercoat theres no real damage - threads are fine as is the thread depth (maybe - 1mm from manufactures dimensions so perfevtly usable) so, half hours work (with one burned fingertip!) and I've saved ~£300 on a new pair. as to new pair, these sva calipers use the same pads and piston sizes as the 'Ginetta' branded Hispec Ultralite 2, 2-piston calipers and the other older design Hispec 2-piston handbrake calipers that I have so I have spares (& too many bits!) although I might sell some to make space brake pads are same as Lotus Elise so many compounds and brands cater for this... now its another set of caliper adapters to make. Rich.

bouncing around with tasks and attention again back to suspension... I've been looking at balljoint type bushings, basically oem type 'spherical' bearing bushings. these I've tripped over are front lower damper bushes from a Jaguar S-Type / XK or XF (genuine Jaguar, found 4 new for a great price on ebay) these have a 14mm bore that suits lower rear / outer positions, also these bushings have a 40mm outside diameter -again suitable for the wishbone's tubes... one issue is length.... the Jag bushes are ~10mm shorter so will need spacers to centralise in the wishbones. tried in the 'test' wishbone, this one was in a joblot of spares I bought and had one of the sleeves cut - handy in development! example of the slightly narrower Jag bush in Mazda wishbone. compared to the Mazda bushing. so, I'll machine some spacers ~5mm wide to try these. but, I'm intending to buy new wishbones so not going to fit these yet more to follow but working and other commitments are playing havoc with car fun Rich.

so..... ebay strikes again so, I added these to my 'watch' list and shortly afterwards recieved an 'Offer'... and, the welds look horrible anyway, more pieces in the Jigsaw and something thats worth buying considering 'used' wishbones are ~17-34 years old and usually rusty (in my experience ) next I'm going to make some press-tooling to fit the Jag bushes and also make the spacers needed to fit. Rich.

Really like what you've done with the stack gauge and fitted in the Mazda binnacle thingy. Not seen that before.

so, started looking at fitting the 'bushes'.... test fit. next is to make press-tooling to position them in their 'tubes', will look into a tube-spacer between positions so I dont collapse them if I use the hydraulic press might get an hour later.... Rich.
