I used a Vauxhall Bosch motronic Ecu when I ran dellortos on my Westfield, fabricated a “box” that went over the intake trumpets, it had a single air inlet via the original AFM (I know it restricted airflow!) and also put the original TPS onto the carb spindle. It worked well, don’t ask me about power, I never dynoed it, but as an experiment it was fine. Have pics somewhere.... also used the original dizzy and coil, so basically the Ecu ran the ignition and the fuelling was via carbs. I've seen that done, I've built cars using XE's running the Cav 1.6 distributor in the back of the head & Manta 1.8s distributor's mounted along the head / above the exhaust & driven via toothed-belt from the exhaust cam (both 'old' standard mods).. I have a few MBE ecu's in the garage for emergancy use (think that I'm lazy ....) BUT it's possible to use the standard Mazda NA 1.6 ecu to run throttlebodies ecu sees the crank / cam position sensor, throttle position (basic open/closed on early cars) and afm (open slightly continues the fuel-pump power feed & vairiable signal for airspeed densite somethinglikethat?) so can basically mount the 'throttle potentiometer' as mazda did (it's a switch so just tells the ecu open/closed throttle) and then some trickery to replace the airflow meter (several possibilities, one is just a relay to replace the afm's signal to the ecu & fuelpump with a 'run' signal possibly taken from the alternator's charge circuit or a bit more complicated by the previous 'mod' and adding a potentiometer to the throttle spindle to replicate the afm's vairiable 'sweep' signal ) ^^ obviously bodgery -fuckery but ghetto cheapness sorta..... Rich.

This was the air box that fitted over the dellorto inlets

road-tested the 'new' revcounter its an Elliot 0-10K with 'tell-tale' and maybe a little overkill on a '5 now to wait for the bad news from the mot tester Rich.

so, random boredom photo eventually fitted the unbroken rear panel, badges & trimmed numberplate (as the 'export' size plate didnt fit the car ) the Polo twin-pass / crossflow rad over a normal 5 rad for comparison. it's smaller as can be seen but as its a better design (twin pass so the coolant spends longer in the airflow) and both main waterpipes on the same side hopefully a neater installation something I need to look into is where to mount the 'expansion' tank thats needed to run this rad system will be on the passanger side, maybe near the wipermotor but thats future work..... Rich.

time to start on replacing the standard electric window switch with a pair of 'momentary' on-off-on switches. bought the new switches ages ago (maybe last year?) so its about time I got busy expecting fire & sparks Rich.

so..... MOT passed & car taxed... one thing I wanted to do before the mot was replace the front discs & pads but obviously there were more important things to de (like do nothing ) so I looked online and MX5parts had 'cheapo' discs for £35 and basic pads as extra. looked on ebay & MX5parts had cheapo discs & ebc pads for £35 posted so the 'BIN' was done & they arrived the next day how were they cheaper on ebay (posted)?? if anyone wonders, I'm using the earlier 'small' 1.6L sized discs & calipers as an attempt to keep unsprung wieght low & may go for Wilwood dynapro calipers to loose a few more lbs...... also, back to ebay..... saw a 7" diff listed for 99p start & no bids so watched it.... won it for 99p also a gearbox & prop for 99p and a mk2 steering rack for 99p unfortunately for me, I cannot look someone in the eye & give them the 99p starting-bid so I decided to pay my bid (£2 lol) was in Bristol so a roadtrip was aranged (for yesterday) and we visited Bath first then Brizzol to get a few ebay 'winnings'.... the diff, gearbox/prop & rack did exist, the seller was honest & happy to take the ebay prices (turned out that he had lost storage, something that must be horrible to go through ) but I paid a bit more as I have a conscience so luckily I had the trusty '93 B3 Passat estate was transport as this has a large load area with the seats folded foreward as it was somewhat loaded. the hoard was: diff assembly. 5 speed gearbox & prop. mk2 steering rack. AND. mk2 front and rear suspension crossmembers, several wishbones, front & rear mk2 / 2.5 calipers, brake & clutch pedalboxes (do mk2 items fit a mk1?) and could have had mk2 doors / bonnet & rear bumper but as I have a mk1 that was no use & I didn't have the space as I had another collection to make after! I'm going to open the diff for a looksee, it might be interesting (seller 'thought' it could be an lsd but wasn't sure & I only wanted the casings to build a plate lsd & 4.778:1 ratio so don't care for a standard torsen / fuji diff with motorway ratio) - will update later Rich.

so, the diff.... pulled the diff / pigshead from the alloy case & there was a plesant suprise.... 4.1:1 ratio fugi lsd naturally, I had to dismantle it for scientific purposes.... BUT..... there were 'spare-parts' in the case.............. so the diff had a Tochigi Fuji Super LSD and I'm led to believe its from a 2003+ car so one of the last? but as is common it was Effed I'll strip the dif / lsd to see what condition it is in but I have no intrest in it (also it needs repair to use & I prefer proper plate lsd's so I'm not going to use it) more wanderings to come.... Rich.

stripped the lsd core. in bits casings, 5 & a bit of the 8 tabs found, the 'bit' has been through the final-drive 'mesh' end case. main case. you can see where the 'tabs' have spun before they snapped off the 'cone' so, the infamous Fuji 'super' lsd has suffered the common failure, I'm tempted to weld a ring with tags onto the cones to reclaim them but am unsure how long it would last due to the heat altering the hardness of the cone & warpage (I do not have access to a proper oven to 'normalise' the repaired parts) I'll re-build the diff & file it in the garage somewhere for that Riany-day Rich.

You are a wizard. A bit of hot glue and it should be as good as new Crumpets think it would actually be easier to machine a brass cone to replace the hardened steel (ish?). also this would alter the pre-load tighter untill it wears anyway welding would alter the metal's hardness, warp the shit out of it and be 'hit&miss' for useable cones? why am I considering repairs, I WANT A PROPER 'PLATE' LSD Rich.
