Oh, cool, sounds good! I assume it retains the reflector ring for MOT happiness? (And not-getting-smacked-up-the-rear canoe-by-an-HGV-when-parked-in-the-dark safety! lol) I've actually got one of the twin round LED panels from Fast5 (IIRC) but I am a massive procrastinator and there is also no off-the-shelf gasket for the panel, so it will be a faff to make it watertight. Sounds like the headlights are suitably powerful to see past the excessively blinding kit on everything new nowadays so that's good news! Hopefully the beam pattern machine likes them! I've not driven mine much this year but I did drive it all through the winter before, so being able to see on the commute is a good thing... lol

Yes - Looking at the light from the rear, The ring sits behind the reflector - Meaning that when it's off the reflector is still fully operational. I desperately want a GV panel - But this will do until I get my hands on one. I'll update with beam pattern analysis when I get around to it

3. Back after winter.Well, I have some updating to do! - Just before i put the car away for winter It passed MOT. Needed some adjustment on the lights but can confirm they're legal. Just before I put her away i fitted a GV lip and a HKS Super Drager exhaust. After having lots of fun and enjoying ownership I decided it was best to put her away over the cold and wet winter. Ofcorse there were a few visits, starting up, making sure all was good; and filling up the garage with bits that i had bought over the winter lol.
Fast forward to last week. As i've been furloughed, I have suddenly found a lot of time. Time that I can work on the car. Before the 'Lockdown' I pulled the car from the lockup and brought her home. (as well as lots and lots of parts) Bought some new wheels around Christmas, so I was super keen to get them fitted first: Ultralite TB 15" 8J ET0
Wrapped them in Uniroyal Rainsport 3's 195/50/15. (Ironic as i never drive the car in the wet, but I got a cracking deal on four and I don't often hear bad things about these) Out with the old, In with the new. I have a million small jobs I want to do, but i started with the bigger ones first.
I'm not adverse to getting hands on, and I find working on the 5 therapeutic.
The thought of a cambelt, waterpump and service items is something I revel in the thought of: But my god, those two words, never again:
Coolant reroute.
The single most P.I.T.A job i've ever done on a 5. Hands down. It would have been more time efficient to do it with the block swingin' from a hoist. During assembly: The hose was a pain to get pushed on correctly.
Using a mirror to check for leaks during coolant bleeding.
I still have lots of jobs to do, so no doubt i'll keep you updated. My lower back is killing me lol. Crumpets

What do you mean? Coolant reroute was easy. ...with the engine beside the car I also may have to add the rear light rings to the list of things to do before ragnarök. Quite cool

You have a great looking car there !
Just wondered, if you have had a MOT since installing those headlights?. I have been thinking about a set of these for my 5 but was not sure if they were legit or not?

Yeah, the coolant reroute with the engine in situ is a right pain in the rear canoe. Ive done 2 & both were a bugger.

Quite cool Yeah, the coolant reroute with the engine in situ is a right pain in the rear canoe. Ive done 2 & both were a bugger. Yeah haha in hindsight i should have just partially removed the engine. It would have saved me half the time & I would have been able to install my new IL Engine mounts! Howard, you are twice the man I am hahaha, NEVER AGAIN.
I'm surprised that the red rings arn't a more popular mod - They look the mutts' nuts' IMO, but I don't see them done very often. You have a great looking car there ! Just wondered, if you have had a MOT since installing those headlights?. I have been thinking about a set of these for my 5 but was not sure if they were legit or not? Thank you dude! Much appreciated! Yes I have, It initially failed due to headlight aim, but once that was adjusted and the lights sat lower it passed fine. I have heard stories of cheap ones not having a correct beam pattern though. 4. Little Update
So, now that we're allowed to (Sensibly and responsibly) go out and enjoy what we have left of summer, I've just been enjoying the car! I took the Red Cobra seat and Luke harness out, the Red was not sitting well with me against the orange. I'd love to get some matching buckets down the line, but for now i'm happy with a tombstone. I need to do a foam-ecimy at some point though! I fitted a MK2.5 6 Speed, with a new genuine RMS, Spigot bearing & Clutch Release Bearing. I also fitted a XTD 4.8KG Flywheel mated to a "Stage 3" 6 puck clutch. I was expecting the placebo effect from new parts, but it must be said the car responds very well to shorter gearing and a lightweight flywheel. It has made the car feel alive again. Not many pics of progress because, as i said, i've been just driving the car and enjoying it! Now that I've sorted the cooling, I've up-rated the clutch and I've put in the 'Strong' 6 speed. You'll probably have an idea as to what direction i'm taking with the car. I've almost completed my box of goodies and am very very close to stepping down the FI route. All i need to complete the setup is some Bosch injectors, and to have my downpipe mated to a decat as previous owner hacked it off. Hopefully the next update will be along these lines Crumpets

I've been busy and realised that i haven't updated the thread for a little while. Over the summer I just enjoyed the car, drove it loads. The introduction of the light fly and the short gears made the car a riot! A proper fun little B road basher. The keen eye'd may notice a change to the thread title; I've been collecting parts for a while now and this winter is the time to get it all done. More on that later. 5. Time for F.II've been putting it off for too long, it's time to go forced induction. After previous maintenance this year, the front main seal developed a little leak. My first job on the agenda was to replace this with an OEM replacement. I'm borrowing some space in a friend's unit, so I dug in for the winter: And got cracking. First job was to Remove Intake and exhaust Manifolds, Radiator, as well as all timing bits and the old (Blanked off) thermostat housing. I knew my engine had a little bit of movement, so 'whilst i was in there' i replaced the engine mounts with IL Motorsport uprated rubber ones that i've been sitting on for the past year or so. The OEM ones were both split, one was completely detached, whilst the other had a huge split and was hanging on. Once that was done, it was all systems go, one by one, I installed all the parts I had been collecting over the past 12 Months: Kraken Manifold, TD04l & Wrapped DownpipeSkunk2 Racing Intake Manifold (With painted top cover)Skunk2 Racing 64mm Throttle BodyBillet Aluminium throttle cable bracketFreakyparts Billet Water pump PulleyAdjustable cam gear pulleys.Radium Engineering Fuel Rail Bosch EV14 640cc Injectors GFB Developments Denzo COP Kit Mazda 323 Rocker Cover (Painted Wrinkle Black) Skidnation Thermostat blanking plate (M16 Water Inlet)
I've had to make a slight notch in the chassis rail overhang flap thing, and I've made a start on thermals with gold backing tape. I still have a little way to go until It's running, but so far the progress is going well. Any advice/comments is always welcomed - This is my first turbo build so I'm going to learn through mistakes! I'll keep you guys updated, I promise Crumpets

This looks very awesome indeed...... that's a cracking list of parts going on, what power do you hope to see when it's all plumbed in and done? Also, i know it's a small detail in the grand scheme, but really like that Mazda 323 cover, not seen one of those before

Going to be keeping a stock motor for now, so aiming to cap at 250. I must admit, the 323 cover makes it for me 🙌

I can't see the pictures but it all sounds on point. I like the "aiming to cap at 250" . I suggest you print that quote off, frame it, and hang it on the garage wall to remind you of you that when your chasing 300+

That's strange, photos working fine for me! 250bhp would still be pretty epic fun in one of these I would imagine
