Hi all, My first post here, although like many before me, i've been lurking. So, to make the bloody long story as short as possible, here goes in the form of a list: Bought 1991 Eunos Auto to do Rocketter conversion Installed Engine and MANUAL gearbox and all other mechanical components Got to the electrics, wired in the new ECU, fitted a loom from a manual car, and then haywire. Ha. Haywire is as follows: Connect battery cables Fuel pump, BRAKE light on dash lights and various relays click, all WITHOUT the key. Key doesn't do anything. Moving the wiper stalk down cuts power but does nothnig with the windscreen wipers. Headlights, rear lights, number plate lights and side lights all work. Headlight retractor doesn't. Don't seem to be getting any power to MAIN fuse (or is it a relay?), but that was also the same with the auto loom - so unlikely to be the main fuse. I've checked all fuses, the only blown one is one for the aircon fan which ive removed anyway. Heres a short video showing the above: flic.kr/p/2mmd2ipNot to put too finer point on it, but I wish i'd never bothered!

Nice work so far! It sounds like you'll just need to methodically work through the entire loom and check all the connections are correct and the earths are good! I hate electrics because they are a PITA and you can't apply physical force with something heavy... lol

first I'd check all connections are in their correct places.
then all earth connections (below wipermotor and between pedalbox & dashboard)
Eunos wiring is generally identical to Mx5 BUT can have some different wire colours (also seatbelt buzzers and the exhaust's 'HEAT' sensor)
^^ I'm currently rewiring my '91 Eunos so have encountered a few suprises...
Rich.

Thanks guys.
I guess most people don't disconnect everything generally, so getting advice is pretty hard.
Does anyone have a picture (or could send me one of their car) of the original solenoid wire for the starter motor? I've got the big black one from the battery attached, i'm trying to find the right wire from the engine bay fuse box. My wiring diagram says black/red but i'm struggling to find a true black/red wire.

I guess most people don't disconnect everything generally really?? theres 2 'main' /front looms both from '91 Eunos's & both slightly different '91 Eunos starter-activator (thick black / blue) and the oilpressure gauge's (yellow / red) wire tangled around it... if you look @ / in the underbonnet fusebox you'll see how complicated Mazda 'knitted' the spaghetti - and don't get me started on their relay / splice / spare wire fettish is it jdm stupidity or row thats responsible for non-conformity in wiring diagrams? I look @ diagrams as a 'map' for colourblind not exact so trace the connections between terminals / plugs... I have a 1.8 UK spec loom as the next candidate but trying to NOT get into that box... Rich.

Now its trying to work out which wire goes where on the S-Type starter motor! choice of 3 terminals including the main-power input? one will be the activator & other generally is solenoid +12v output when cranking easy to testr, power to solenoid & earth from battery, take +12v from battery & 'touch' against one of the other terminals - ou'll discover what is the activator Thank you for your help, fancy moving to my house?! depends where it is & if theres lots of space as I have too much s hit Rich.

Excellent. I think I have that identified correctly. Thank you! Joined that up and still the same prarrie canoe is happening. What woud be causing the window wiper stalk to control the power to the car and the key having to impact whatsoever?

It looks like there's been a terrible accident in your house and that's all that's been left standing... LoL

I guess most people don't disconnect everything generally really?? Actually can't stop chuckling at this, its like you pulled it all out methodically and lined it all up to do some diagnoisis, went into get a cuppa and it pis sed it down so you though f uck it, and just left it hanging there for so long your tyres deflated in that time

Ha. you've seen some of it that might be closer to the truth, bit of remodeling in progress - House AND elsewhere Rich. Give the tate modern a call mate I think you have something going here, the flat tyre in the backdrop really sets it off. ha, that Disco had been parked in the garden jungle behind the garage for 6 years, fitted a charged battery & it started on the 4th compression! no brakes and the clutch fork has worn through - also had 2 flat tyres the old 200tdi is a brilliant engine though really?? Actually can't stop chuckling at this, its like you pulled it all out methodically and lined it all up to do some diagnoisis, went into get a cuppa and it pis sed it down so you though f uck it, and just left it hanging there for so long your tyres deflated in that time I draped the loom over the old fireplace (as a handy tressle) and started unpicking Mazda's nervous-breakdown idea of a good loom then got sidetracked (rear bearings / discs / pads / front wings & rad on the t4, front calipers / pads & brake-flexi's on the Landrover Ninety) so YES rain has happned... as to the Disco's tyre, see above Rich.

You need to go back and check wherever you spliced the two looms together, somewhere you will have created a mismatch, it all worked before, didn’t it?
