Well they were better on the Sunday but still far from perfect. I will say that it was only the feel that was poor, the stopping power was there. Bedding in procedure was as many sharp stops and cool downs as I could manage in the rain on the way to Wales, plus short track sessions. I've spoken to Paul and he's never had these issues before and has recommended fresh discs first... I'll try that plus a bleed and see what happens!

So sad news. After feeling like I had got everything just about sorted for a year of hooning (bar the brakes) the car bites back.
It's currently stuck in 3rd gear. I guess something in the gearbox has decided it no longer wishes to work after 23 years. The box was always a bit loose but it's dead now!
Anyway, I know a gearbox is cheap and swapping them over isn't the biggest deal in the world but I've decided to not bother and break the car instead because the body work is in need of a fair bit of work and I'm not confident it'll pass another MoT next year!
So is this it? I don't know. I haven't decided what I'll get next. I doubt it'll be another 5. I might move the Stagea on as well and combine the funds to get something really nice. Not sure. Throw me some ideas. And watch this space for 5 goodies.

Sad news. One of my favourite cars around. I'm not sure what I'd suggest to replace it... I'd always have suggested an Elise but they are mega bucks. Do you want another toy? Either way I'll be mercilessly keeping an eye for you selling the bits off. Sorry

I'll happily make a list of first refusals An Elise or Viper would be nice... but sadly out of my price range! I once found a DB9 listed for £10k and thought 'ooh a project!' but the first line of the description was 'Was perfect before the fire.' Ha! I'll figure something out...

The big Jag coupe look really good value for money but apparently they suffer from rot... Familiar story! How about doing something different with a Boxster? Hold on they blow up don't they

Sad to see another one being split, changing a box isn't too difficult having just done one myself. Good opportunity to g 6 Speed/upgraded clutch? Replacements, you're talking an S111 Elise, N/A or Turbo VX220, Boxster/Cayman, S2000, (I was going to say NSX but they are 35k now ).

Noooo What sort of car are you thinking, another two seater, roof, no roof etc?

Scotty - it's not hard but I just changed the diff earlier this year making a 6 speed swap a pain, and it's classic scope creep potential - new clutch, crb at the same time etc. The body is only worth saving for someone who really wants no hassle with emissions as the sills are on their way out. I could dump thousands in to the car if I was to keep it... For once my head is doing the talking! As for the replacement, as long as it's fun I don't mind what it looks like. I'm tempted by the SVE Rocket (Atom style) or maybe a 350Z. But I do have a truck and a V8 itch to scratch... A 1UZ Hilux maybe?

Only if you promise to keep it RWD.
Do not look up 'Engineered to Slide' whatever you do.

So it's kind of a funny story...
I'd made my mind up that it was time to break and part with the car. The shell is going to cost a fortune to get fixed up and frankly sinking a couple of grand in to the car just isn't possible for me right now.
Anyway, found myself with a couple of spare hours to start taking things apart and thought I'd have a poke about the gearbox while I was there. Pulled the shifter mechanism apart and had a fish about the turret and found the brass collar I'd used was out and about! The short shifter was a bit mangled so not locating properly and all in all it was looking rough. eBay car parts eh? So I took it all out and popped the old shifter in and... it was fine. Everything was working perfectly. Oh bummer! Wish I'd done that sooner!
I've made up my mind though, so started pulling things off. I'll start a for sale thread and sell things as they come off the car.
The end of an era, but it's been fun!

Sad times about the 5, on the stagea though - we've done RB25 EFR manifolds in the past I'm sure what ever you do next it'll be worth documenting!

It got serious yesterday... Hope the neighbours don't mind the new hover car. Thanks for the kind words Dave(s), lots of choice so not sure what yet but it will involve a turbo I know this much!
