Well this happened: You guessed it, that's the 10mm that's missing! Along with it my 1/4" drive ratchet and long extension. Bloody socket fairies. I've fixed the problem though and bought me an early birthday present - the 200 piece Halfords pro set complete with ratchet spanners. Such excite.

I've just lined up the bits I need to get the car MOT'd and ready for 5Fest. My to-do list is long (for a newish dad):
Swap wheels to Volks/RSRs Swap pads to Rodders Install tweeters Install Bluetooth receiver and gain control in glovebox Replace washer motor (again) Replace wiper blades Fix seat mount Refit electric aerial / plug with grommet Fit vented light cover MOT!
Not long to do it all... a good couple of days work. Will prioritise the MOT bits of course!

Changed the wiper blades, and swapped the washer motor. No pics as it's pretty dull. Old washer motor was gunked up with blue sh*t that is I think from putting washer fluid in the alloy scuttle tank. I think it's going to be a recurring nightmare... I then made a little thingamy to temporarily sort my seat mount. The Bride is so narrow that the JB Fabs don't fit without a lot of filing. Some fat bastard at the garage must have sat in it because it bent the mounting. A little alloy with a bend to hook over the mount will keep it from doing the same again. I'll get a proper mount (e.g. the Omp one) in due course. I also had a go at installing the tweeters. Only got one done, and I messed it up royally. Typical me I went in guns blazing and chopped a big hole in the pad of the door card. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough space for the tweeter behind it! Doh. I used a different, shallower tweeter which had a different mounting method but for that I had to move it which meant two massive holes in the pad. Double doh. Anyway, masking tape saves the day... Made up a little harness to split the speaker feed, one to mid and one to the 'crossover'. It's not really a crossover as it just filters out mids and lows, but it does the job. Gave up and came in for lunch after that. What a ballache.

Got back outside after some marmite and cheddar toasted sarnies. They went down nicely So having lost my 10mm and justified getting a new tool kit as my tools were getting on, this turned up: Hello 10mm old friend. Seemed to be the story of the day too as the seat rail bolt I was missing, and subsequently bought a replacement for, also popped up! Lol. Anyway. My direct iPhone to amp connection was not ideal, I needed gain control. And now I have it! I'll get round to doing it properly at some point. While I was at it I also added a Bluetooth wotsit. It comes with a neat RCA to female 3.5mm jack adapter (you can just see it above), so worst case scenario I can still plug in my phone. Whoop. But leaving it in my pocket would be a bonus. I then started on swapping the brake pads for the Rodders ones. Only got one side on but the car is happy to be back in it's Volks: The car needs a serious clean and polish as it's turning pink Also my Westco is dead, so looking at alternatives. I see G19 do a nice 063 conversion kit... might give it a go.

Marmite and cheddar? Not tried that before...hmm Seriously?! Oh my god you haven't lived Minty! ššš Anyway, spent hours last night agonising over whether to get another Westco, or get something different. There is limited choice for something that fits the original battery tray, basically the OE Panasonic or the Westco as far as I could find. So I looked in to Type 063 sealed batteries, but while a lot of people said they used them, there wasn't a huge amount on how they mounted them. Lots of mentions of adapting the bracket bit I'd rather not do that if I didn't have to! A bit of googling later and I see G19 recently released a new product specifically for this purpose. It's a very neat tie down. Not cheap, but very neat. And I like neat. Seeing as a 063 sealed battery can be had for Ā£40, and the shipped price for Doug's tie down was under Ā£55 (justified in my head as very long term savings! ) I was still coming in less than a new Westco. So I bought some battery mat too Hopefully that lot will come this week and I can get the car MOT'd and make it to 5Fest!

I'll probably do the same when my battery finally dies. Makes sense when you can grab the 063 from any halfords and cheap if the battery decides to die randomly. My battery still has Japanese writing on it...so if imagine it's not gonna last much longer!

My G19 stuff arrived today, as did the battery and mat so it was on. It's a really nice bit of kit - credit to Doug, very simple and easy to install. He's produced a how to video so I won't bore you with that! Then I swapped the brake pads around and switched the wheels on the other side. Messed up the handbrake. As the car was going pink, I applied some elbow grease and now it looks ok again. No pics as the iPhone decided to stop working, so the evening was spent doing a proper reset. Lucky me. Mini update: got a crap photo. I also did what I should've done from the start for the tweeters: buy door cards with the OE tweeters in. More to come if it stops raining...

Well on Saturday Josh popped over to lend me a hand and we got the brakes bled with ATE TYP200 (what was formerly super blue but no longer blue) and the handbrake adjusted up nicely. Car rolls, car stops. Just need to bed the brakes in. It was chucking it down but onwards... Josh noticed that my power steering fluid was low so after a quick cheese toasty we popped to Halfords and picked up a bottle of fluid. Topped up and now working much better. He also noticed a small leak from one of the coolant hoses. The OE spring clip was replaced by a jubilee, what a ballache that was with the supercharger in the way! I will come back and nip that up on Friday, just to make sure. It was hard to tell with all the rain whether the leak was fixed but it looked like it! Don't want to be 'that guy'. The new door cards had arrived and were actually better than my original ones even before I started hacking holes in them. The OE tweeters are really neat, look super flush, and sound good enough. The sound is now much better - with just the mids it was quite muddy. A couple of things still to do with the sound system but it's almost there. I didn't take any pictures because of the rain, but my iPhone is now working again after a full reset

Soooo... It failed. Not on rust, which is what I was worried about, but a couple of minor things. The washer wasn't washing, the lights were pointing too high, and the CO was too high. Wait what? Yep my car failed the non cat test. The shame... Being a confident chap generally (helped by the fact that a friend had offered me the use of his car for the weekend if I couldn't get a pass, I booked a retest for the afternoon. Off home I went and fixed the minor bits, and popped to Halfords to get some engine cleaner/injector cleaner on the basis that it couldn't hurt. I then asked anybody who'd listen what I needed to do to get my emissions down. I did some research and spoke to Josh and a chap on Mazda Menders. Between them they imparted enough knowledge for me to be able to adjust the fuelling at idle, the theory being that it must be over fuelling. The VE table was a mystery to everyone, and something is decidedly iffy with the map since I changed the throttle body/tps. Adjustments were made... the tps was replaced... prayers were said. Back to the test station I went and they looked at the emissions first. Success! I was down to 2.8%! The other bits were sorted quickly and I was now in possession of a pass! Home to quickly pack for 5Fest and get on the road, and here I am an Clacket Lane enjoying a dinner of Maccy Ds waiting for Corders to join me. Then it's a convoy to Wales and see you all tomorrow!

Well yesterday was interesting...And I forgot to take any photos! And my GoPro died. So this is a boring post... My pads still didn't feel great despite my best bedding in efforts. The brakes felt ok but I wasn't as confident as I had hoped in the new Rodders pads. Surely the track would get some good heat in to them and bed them in properly? The first 15 minute session I ducked out of after about 7/8 laps as the brake pedal started getting too long. I let the brakes cool, and for the second session the same thing happened. I let it cool as long as possible and got a cheeky 5 minutes in at the end of open pit lane before lunch. Sometimes the brakes were good, sometimes not. This was to be the theme for the day... After lunch I went out for a few 10 lap sessions and as before it was all over the place. Having a good nosey the discs had gone blue, so they were overheating, but it wasn't like I was really leaning on them because of my lack of confidence. Speaking to Nick from Skuzzle, he was saying they don't even bed them in - just go straight out and they perform. So I was baffled. The fluid was brand new ATE Super Blue (which is now orange) and bled through properly, maybe the discs have had their day and that's causing the problems? I don't know. On the plus side, Llandow was a cracking little track, really well run, and had a nice old skool grass roots racing feel about the place. Horney did a great job of pulling this together. Another plus was that DaveFab had brought along a jacking bar for me! I fitted it at the track - so easy, four nuts, four bolts, slipped straight on and just fitted. No fettling, no jiggling, just far too easy. I thought I'd done it wrong! Nice to know that there are guys who can make such excellent products Anyway, will give the drive out a go and if the brakes are still scary I'll just head home... wish me luck!

Strange you had problems with the brakes, I was running the exact same setup but in an NA car and found them fantastic. No fade and the pedal was solid for the full 15min sessions.
Agree about the track, was my first track day and absolutely loved Llandow.
