After being all smug about having two out of three cars on the road, I got the dreaded click. Out comes the battery for some love... Checked the belt, nice and tight. Unless the alternator is dead, I'm having trouble believing the clock draws enough to drain a battery in a matter of days. A battery cut off might be in order...

So yesterday I got 5 minutes on the car. Turned in to an hour, but that's how it goes The battery got dropped back in and the car fired in to life. I will see if it goes dead again in a few days of not driving, and if that happens, it must be the clock and a battery master switch will be my next purchase. If not... then I need to do some driving if that drains the battery, then a new alternator will be my next purchase! Oh such fun and games I also had a look at the door speaker situation, which is currently no door cards and empty holes where there should be speakers. The speakers I bought are proper chunky and don't sit well in the hole. So I bought a spacer. The spacer turned out also not to sit well on the door, as the speaker hole is slightly recessed. My kind neighbour routered a 45 degree angle in to the spacers and now they sit beautifully. Unfortunately, I'm a plonker and can't measure it appears as the spacers are too deep for the door card to sit nicely against and will protrude too far from the door cards. Further, once the speakers and grilles are mounted, the door won't close as it fouls the dashboard. So I need to make the spacers slimmer. Hopefully I'll bump in to my neighbour again while he's in his workshop so I can borrow his router skills again! I will make this work... I did try the speakers out though, they sound good. I initially tried with boom mat speaker cups, they are going in the bin - they made the speaker sound worse than what comes out of a phone. No good, I'll take my chances with the flimsy door acoustics. Calling Rodders tomorrow to buy pads in preparation for 5Fest. I probably need discs too. Also, my JB Fab seat mount is a bit erm bent so I need to sort that out before the MOT too... Does it ever end?

that westco battery should be recoverable - but you might need a booster battery, tho that ctek charger is considered the best for recovering a westco

The CTEK I have to say is bloody incredible. I've had it for 5-6 years now and it's recovered the 2CV, Caterham, MX5 and Stagea š

Just bought some Rodders pads. No more M5s discount but that's my fault for taking sooooo long to order them. Oops.

Excellent read I've got a 10 day old daughter so most my time has been spent applying Dulux Once rather than bolting on bits to the MX5. Inspirational though mate. I've got quite a way to go.

Last night I got the laptop out. Something I've not sorted in ages was the TPS calibration, so I did what any self respecting home mechanic would do and googled it. Fearing that, like many computer-related things, it would be ridiculously complicated, I was encouraged to hear from Atlex that it was simply a case of opening the right window, and pressing the pedal in and out! Just like that. The right window was duly found, and now, rather than showing 10% when closed, it's got a full range and working perfectly! It made such a big difference on my cheeky drive, I'm an idiot for not doing it sooner. Feeling confident, I decided it was time to tell Megasquirt to make fire. I consulted Josh, who told me my overrun, spark and fuel settings would make burbles, which it does. I only had time to adjust the overrun settings last night, but suffice to say, there was no change. Time to adjust spark and fuel... Settings as per Skuzzle tune:

Battery dead again... charged it again... Spent a bit of time with the speakers today. Popped out to the garage and my neighbour was in his. Borrowed him and his tools for a bit, and cut the speaker rings down to size. Tried it all together with the grilles and it fits I thought about cutting the holes out bigger on the door cards, then decided I couldn't be bothered so just put them back on as they were. Finished the doors up with OnePaintedMan's door pulls. Put the passenger seat back in. Went for a drive to check everything was ok

Aaaand another dead battery. Reconditioned it. Wondering how many more batterings it can take. So I've fitted a super awesome battery cutoff as recommended by atlex and others on another thread. No pics because my boot is... not pretty. Ah well. On the plus side, if the battery drains now at least I know it's the battery and not just the clock ticking away!
