Well back to the 5... not a lot has happened in all honesty. I haven't had time to sort anything out, being a hands on dad is quite the full time job. Before the Krispy Kreme meet, as I wanted to get rid of some garage bits that I was never going to use and were just taking up space, I thought I'd add the headrest speakers to that pile. I pulled the seat out the car, unzipped the headrest and unscrewed the speakers. I couldn't get them out in one piece sadly (the speaker cones disintegrated as soon as they saw daylight) so they went straight in the bin, but a useful bit of weight saving ( ) nonetheless. Fortunately at the meet I managed to get rid of most of the stuff so I'm happy!

Update! After faffing about royally getting the car moving again, I bit the bullet and bought another diff. I've had it sent to Sanspeed in Bexleyheath who are going to swap it over for me. I'll then take the old unit back and rebuild it with the intention of selling on or keeping as a spare. I've not used Sanspeed before but heard good things. Also very responsive and easy to deal with which is a plus.
At the same time, I've decided to go for a Salon Motorsport outlet for the charger to see if that frees some horses up. Sanspeed are going to do a before and after dyno to see what happens... watch this space.

So it's taken a little longer than expected but that's how it goes sometimes. The new diff is a type 2, old one was a type 1 as expected. There's one external difference - the PPF mount. The new diff has had the located sleeve knocked out (or in?) which is a shame but shouldn't be an issue, but there's a an extra hole on the type 1: Type 1: Type 2: Hopefully it won't be needed! Top marks for Sanspeed so far who have taken photos for me as requested to confirm the diff types. Cannot wait to get it back!

Have you got any pictures just in case you forget what it looks like? Pretty sure it's red... but my memory is t what it used to be! I wondered if they'd lost it for a bit, but I'm assured it's still there...

Ok. So it's been a while. The garage has taken forever... but actually it's suited me as I've been a) out of the country a lot, and b) skint. So payday rolls around and I get the nod. Whoop! Snag list is a bit erm... snaggy: 1. Washer pump not working - Again! What a bastard. 2. Wipers in poor condition - probably because it's been sat for months... at least it's an easy fix. 3. Tyre treads OK but look old and perished - again sitting around probably hasn't helped. Time for a wheel swap! (Or a drift day) 4. Brake discs rusty/poor, recommend upgrading pads and discs and brake fluid - fluid was due a change anyway and I need to call Rodders asap! 5. Recommend antifreeze change, was low - this has me a little worried... I'll top it up and keep an eye on that... 6. Sills rusty - *sigh* 7. Brake pipe ferrules rusty - they're reasonably new but not stainless, so not concerned. 8. has the cambelt ever been changed? Yes - but now I'm worried why they're asking! 9. wideband lambda sensor gauge does not read correctly - ah Canoe Spheres. These ain't cheap... 10. Recommend dyno testing and/or tuning - I know the TPS is off, but the AFRs worry me so they're running it up on the rollers just to be sure. Looking forward to the bill...

It's back! I'd forgotten how noisy and rattly and crap the MX5 is - I love it Needs a good clean, and then time to go through the snagging list. The wideband is all over the place, I'll have to pull that out and check it, but as it's all good on the dyno I'm not worried for now. Made a few horses less than a while ago, so I'm going to look for leaks (only hitting 0.65 bar / 9.4 psi right at the end) and think about how to get that number up. Also can't wait to get my audio back in, I like my music! Also, the bill was very reasonable. The cost to fit the diff was a lot cheaper than I expected, so thanks Sanspeed! Took a bit long but ho hum. I'm a dad, so not like I have loads of spare time! They also have a 4wd dyno and *might* be able to tune the Stagea ooooooh.
