Carbotech XP8 are great for stopping on track, not so great with lots of dust and occasional squeaking.

Hi guys Now I've registered on here and would love to help the new forum what better way than to offer some discounts......and as this thread is about brakes I'll do our pads VAT free for March for any members on here........ Eg mk1/mk2 pads should be £50+vat NOW £50 all in if order placed in March, Kinda glad you sold out now, definitely taking you up on that offer. I had some yellowstuffs break up on me last week (this is likely due to a number of things, including excessive wear, sticky caliper and a dislike of overheating): So called Paul and as he was out of stock got some cheapo eBay ones to see me around town. They actually aren't too bad for normal driving but fade badly on high speed stops. They'll last until the replacements arrived. Discs warped too so those will get replaced as well. I'll be good at pad changes at this rate!

My personal preference is Ferodo DS2500s. They work really well out on track/race. If anyone wants brakes, look no further. That's what we do. Whether it be OEM replacements, upgrades, Big Brake kits - either off the shelf or something custom and wild, we can do all. Currently on the bench is a 6 pot caliper from a Porsche Cayenne bolting up to a set of 355x32mm 2 piece discs. The customer wants them to fit his Golf R32! What about the rears you say. He's got some R8 rear calipers which will be made to fit

What are people's recommendations for pads for the mk2.5 sport brake setup? I currently run Yellowstuff pads and a Wilwood bias valve set to 90% rear. I've also got braided lines and a master cylinder stopper.
My car is used both on the road and track and the current setup works well. On track they've never faded and on the road from cold they offer good bite. I've priced xp8s but finding it hard to justify the big set up in costs.

I've personally heard yellowstuffs can be pretty hit or miss, a friend of mine ran tests years ago for fast car and they didn't do very well. Across the board Mintex performed as well as brakes worth twice their value.

I think EBC have upped their game in recent years. I run Yellow stuff on both my sprint car (With wilwoods up front) and the Max5 car (standard 1.6 set up) and I don't have any issues at all. That said I'm always open to new things so I think once the ones int he sprint car are dead I will try something else.

I always try and help the fellow racers and trackday guys out with brakes, in exchange for a bit of advertising on the car. If you're interested, give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.

Across the board Mintex performed as well as brakes worth twice their value. This is the problem with the interweb. You've personally heard, but for an opinion to be worth anything you really need personal experience Like Horney said, EBC have done a lot of work in the past few years and produce some decent compounds for the price.

not denying it just from Personal feel and experience they are the most common yes but with separating issues and to be frank a wide difference in feel from 1 batch to another its difficult to reccommend them when others can be picked up for a similar price and be more reliable. Ive driven 5 or 6 road cars on yellow stuffs and no 2 has been the same, and one guy had 3 sets separate pad material on him and thats in real life

this is however why i started the thread. everyone has different experiences with different pads, Horney has had only good experiences with them and would recommend them. This means new people have variety.

Having had Yellowstuffs try to kill me I can't wait to try Rodders' pads - only heard good things!
That said, before they crumbled they were quite good. For racers, where things like brakes and pads get checked and changed very regularly, any potential problems like that will be fixed before they become a serious issue.
Question for the racers - should we be checking for cracks as well as meat? What do you look for? How regularly should we check?
