IIRC there was lots of discussion on Miatanet about brake bias. Seemingly on Mk1's they run 80% front and 20% rear so lots of room for altering it. Don't however do what I did on the kitcar and end up with it all to the rear (long story...). Certainly made for interesting handling and blued the rear drums on our first track-day outing - you live and learn. Cheers, Pewe.

sounds like you should stick with normal 'fast road' pads and even by mighty5's trackdayer's standards 1.6 brakes are more than good enough if you really don't want to spend more...

I have been thinking about Roddisons pads as an intermediate cost solution! but if I don't like the 'feel' of them (because I'm aware that brakes are a very personal taste to each of us) it might be a waste of money that could have just gone on the Hawks in the first place! It's annoying that we can't really try-before-you-buy on most kit lol I hate doing (paying for) only half a job - if you're in there doing one part, might as well do the rest at the same time to remove the need to repeat work later and therefore save money... Sadly my bank balance doesn't agree with my 'do it once, do it properly' philosophy lol

Just to add some comment to this thread as the original starter. We ran the car at Blyton on the weekend on the stock 1.6 system with the new OEM disks and pads (I think they were OEM Mintex but can't remember what seller said). We had no problems all day. Didn't change the brake fluid prior though acknowledge this is a good idea. It's on stock brake lines too. Only other thing to mention is it's stripped out so a bit lighter than road standard Acknowledging we aren't hardened track day drivers though we did pass a few cars on track (inc a couple of other 5's ) but we thought there were only 2 really hard braking zones, as I say not a single bit of fade and towards the end of the day we did two 10 lap session back to back. I could lock up the fronts if over keen on fully warm (maybe overheated) Toyo T1R's on a reasonably grippy track braking zone. So we're going to Blyton on 8th June and are leaving it all as is, though before going to some bigger circuits we intend a pad upgrade but given the disks are brand new, nothing else. It's fair to say I'm really pleased with how the braking system worked and that no big money is needed for now.
