I think there's a lot of prarrie canoee on this thread, roundabouts are absolutely fine, I've driven North to South and back again without any use of motorways or Peages multiple times on tiny roads and up and over mountain passes and I've only seen L'Arc D'Triomphe roundabout have priority for those joining. Other than that, everyone else knows what they're doing with regards to road rules at roundabouts. If you're on minor roads behind slower vehicles, they'll usually wave you past when it's safe and give you a little flash if you say thanks. When you're in the middle of nowhere, they're usually pretty happy to see Johnny Foreigner and I usually get a few token questions about where I'm going and where I've come from. "Touch parking" is a thing in major cities but not everywhere, and there's usually plenty of bay style spaces to park in so you don't have to parallel park. Do use a sat nav with GPS camera positions, I've been using them for nearly 10 years and I've never had a problem, even when I've been pulled over. Like someone else said, if you're visibly shifting on a single carriageway road, oncoming traffic will usually flash their lights if there's a police/gendarmes speed trap. Beware of brows of hills on motorways and dual carriageways as like in the USA and in the UK, they like to hide so that you pop over the top doing 90+ and they get to give you a ticket. A little harsh if that was directed at me... Compared to the UK they have very little idea how to use lanes on a roundabout (Admittedly, there are not many with more than one lane). Very few people indicate on roundabouts, and where there are lanes, you are likely to get people randomly pulling across, or wafting all the way around the outside to turn left. The warning was "watch them" not "we are all going to die". I make it a rule to never have anybody either side of me as I have been cut up way too many times. People will often touch your car when parallel parking - hence the warning on that style of space.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be avoiding any parallel parking.
Gf's Dad has a nice place in a little town called Taden. The type of little town that literally has nothing but houses, and you have to drive/walk to somewhere else to get anything.
We went there last summer, without the car though. Saw an MX5 on UK plates just as we were leaving in the airport car park.
So basically I'll grab a driving abroad kit with triangle, high vis, etc and a bulb kit

Nearly forgot. Make sure you don't buy the E10 unleaded which has Ethanol in it. That stuff ain't no good for you.

E10 is ok if you're on a stock car which can drink 95ron, it won't knock but it does deliver less energy and give you worse MPG while you run it. I probably linked this before on almonds but.. this is a good watch:

I'd never really considered the other engine bits. Bit of research .. yeah it'll eat rubber.. www.vwaircooledworks.co.uk/Fuel-Hose-Safety-Campaign.htmlwww.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=104240And I checked this .. www.dat.de/e10liste/e10vertraeglichkeit.pdfWhich confirms from mazda that E10 isn't recommended for us NA/NBers. I've run it in my 2004 mk2.5 without problems. I'd normally run straight 95 in that car, but if I had no choice I wouldn't worry about it as long I switched back to 95 the next fill. Our hoses are already old, so ripe for replacement. If E10 becomes defacto it'll be another thing to sort out. I don't think it'll affect any other part though. On a side note (and this thread is already so derailed.. sorry) twice a year I chuck isopropyl in my tank (50ML or so) because it is good at pulling water into the mix and clearing it out of the tank. Gasoline and water don't mix but the ethanol binds with both the water and the gasoline, so any moisture that was there cleanly mixes into the gas.

If you are likely to drive at night or in tunnels fit beam converters. On most headlight you can easily see the prism part which throws the beam to the left on dip - simply mask off with tank tape or black Fablon from B&Q. Cheers, Pewe.

Alternatively, buy some of the LED headlights with the flat beam pattern in the LED Headlights thread lol

They're a bit more expensive than beam converters
