I'm teetering at the edge of the slippery slope to racing, and want to start in Autosolo, maybe do a couple of events this year to get my eye in and then maybe do a series next year. I'm learning it all as I go though so excuse the newbie questions...
I've just fond this rules and regs sheet on the MSA pages
www.msauk.org/assets/203210specificregulationsforautotestsm.pdf
and already I'm worried that I can't even start - section 32-1 states:
32.1. The following parts of J remain unmodified by this section: Chassis; Seating; Suspension; Brakes; Steering; Tyres; Cooling; Oil Systems; Fuel Systems;Electrical Systems; Weight/Ballast; Exhausts; Silencing.
Does that mean that with my coilovers, stainless exhaust and bucket seat mean that my car is not eligible? I'm sure I've seen other modified cars on this kind of stuff on youtube - am I looking at the wrong rules and regs sheet? Am I in the wrong class?
as I say... I'm new to this!

No, you will be fine, if those are your only mods.

I would have thought that other mods are insignificant, though I've now read that all interior trims have to be intact and I've stripped a couple. I guess I'm going to have to turn up at an event and see if I pass scruitineering!
I guess I'll leave my car alone now and wait until I've done an event and seen what other people have done to their cars to see what else I can do.
Thanks!

@horney is the one to ask here - he has loads of mods but does plenty of autosolo stuff

I'm at this point Deciding on what I need or not to start racing I think auto solo seems a good place to start as you don't need too much safety gear I'm also contemplating hillclimbing but it's more stuff to buy!!

You have mis read the regulation 32.1, it is basically stating that all parts must follow regs in section J, section J allows modification to parts listed as defined in section J, this paragraph you copied states there are no modification to those regs for Autosolo, so follow section J. Probably explained that clear as mud But yes interior trim removal is another matter and depending on what you have done can push you into a specials class if one exists or exclude you, I've rarely seen anyone turned away though.

The rules confuse the crap out of me! I've just bought myself a used fia rated race suit which would of been the most expensive bit of kit I'd only use for hillclimbing everything else I will buy new. The trim bit worries me as I have taken some bits out but I guess it's just a case of being sensible and see what scrutineers say. Go to an event and have a chat to them, that's what I'm going to do this weekend.

Sprints and hill climbs are another matter, you can remove bits and pieces, but again read the regs as you don't want to end up in Sports Libre/Mod Prod.

The only bit of trims I've removed are the ones that go behind the doors from the bottom edge of the sill up to where the seat belt top mount goes on, as they were loose and rattling. I stupidly binned them too so I'll keep an eye out for a breaking car I guess...
Sandys, that does make sense now that I've re-read it, much happier now, thanks!

Autosolos are epic. I started there and now do sprints, hills, circuit and endurance racing. I still like to do Autosolos though as they're brilliant fun.
Not sure where you guys all live but I do mine with Farnborough District Motorclub and they run mx5s in a sports car class where you can be totally standard or hugely modified. There are limits though. The car should still have all its interior (seats belts can be replaced with buckets and harnesses) and suspension must and engine must be of the original design, IE mounting the same, no Honda engine swaps etc. So my Superchraged car with coilovers, Wilwoods, arbs, coilovers, buckets etc etc is in the same class as big standard 1.6 eunos'. Sounds unfair right? Ha. I get beat by a guy in a pretty much standard mk2.5 sport every time.
The MSA blue book is a start but each event will have suplememtry regs around classes and tyres etc so you need to read those as well.
Any questions then fire away.

I'll fire up the laptop in a bit and post some links to some Autosolo bids for you all.

I'll definitely start searching for those trims I stupidly lobbed when they started rattling then.
Ive seen that I need to carry a small spill kit, is this something you've made or bought?
I'm also guessing that I don't need tow hooks and labelling like you do on some track work

I've never needed a spill kit, where have you found the requirement for that?
Yup, no need for tow hooks or other stickers for Autosolos. The whole concept behind them is you should be able to turn up in a bog standard car like a focus and enjoy some competition without requiring anything other than yourself, your car and membership of a club.

I doubt the trims will be an issue, no tow hooks or labelling required, get booked on to one and have some fun

There is also the javelin sprint series which is run outside of msa its basically anything goes, loads of classes to fit into and competition whatever level your at. The last 2 rounds are at woodbridge and snetterton.
