am i correct in the thinking that the standard jackson racing kit can run on standard ecu?

If it comes with the JR powercard then it should be able to run okay.
But FWIW if you can get a megasquirt on the car you can take full advantage of the charger and map it to the best it can be. With all of the safety features the megasquirt offers.

my real opinion is.. you'd be crazy taking any NA-tune ECU into positive pressure, even with hacks and things like the FMU and o2 sensor clamp referenced in the youtube channel ^^
- you might get away with a few runs up to 1-2 psi but without a real map to a specific boost.. you're just taking expensive-rebuild-style chances, leaving you stuck on faster parts of motorways.
it can be done, but it's just a temporary thing imo.
on a turbo, if you really have to move the car on the stock ECU to get it mapped somewhere it can be done.., you can at least disconnect the waste gate actuator from the wastegate (and use a bit of steel wire tie the wastegate open) which means it is almost *very* hard (read: impossible) to build boost - the car will drive OK but not great until you get it mapped.
maybe you can leave a the belts off the supercharger while you take it somewhere to be mapped. IDK. superchargers are more witchcraft to me than rotary engines or jets.

Really no point not getting a MS or ME and getting a proper tune in my opinion. Do it right the first time, it's more up front but less in the long run.

I'll play devil's advocate here - the original JR kits were sold with a power card or similar, as we're the original Mazdaspeed cars. My Mazdaspeed car had been supercharged from the dealership when new. When I got it, I had all of the paperwork confirming this, and confirming the full service history of the car and the engine. It was still on the original engine when I got it, and had done 167,000 kilometres. It gave about 160bhp, which in my opinion was perfect.
Yes you can tune a megasquirt or other ecu more, and you can control things better to allow more power to be gained more safely, or better efficiency... but there is nothing wrong with running it on a power card at the lower power levels, as the hundreds and hundreds of working kits out there prove.

the only reason id consider it is i have the option to ping it on the car by November using no ecu however i need to double the cost for ecu and mapping when if i can run it on powercard that will all come later

Running on standard ecu would need the afpr ideally but like others have said you wont ne able add the larger injectors and raise boost later on etc without standalone ecu

I assume now moss and other names have dropped supercharger from products list.. what are the options with the m45 for the 1.6 mk1.. upgrade it via tdr for parts pulleys, tensioners et etc or change it out completely for bigger charger?? I assume all the mounting brackets etc would not be compatible.
