Take all to bits, removed old felt. Put one layer , or 2 if you want it tight, of electrical tape. Then reinstalled 4 bits of sticky backed felt that iI’d bought off ebay. Voila. Works good

I was upside down in the footwell, trying to wrestle the aircon evaporator out of this Mk.1.
And it seems impossible. Removed glovebox and its support bar, but just can't puzzle it out... I know I did this job before, ten years ago, when I wasn't so old and stiff and overweight, but now it just reminds me of Dirk Gently trying to work out how to get his old sofa down the stairs. And then I realised how old that reference is and now I feel even older. So I have declared Canoeit and walked away to fortify myself with coffee and lemon puffs before I try again.

Yeah, it's unbolted, and the pipe stubs are back through the firewall okay, it's just that it really needs to move to the left to come out of the glovebox gap, or the left side needs to come forward first, but the blower assembly is in the way. I'm sure I didn't have to remove that last time.

My memory of this was cutting the AC pipes that go through the firewall, which let it come out fairly easily once the heater unit fixings came off

to be fair, its not hard to drop the fan assembly & gives a good excuse to clean the intake of leaves etc. and to put new foam on the recirculation flap Rich.

I got it eventually. Just had to walk away from it for a bit.
But I'll tell you another thing that pisses me right off: why do there need to be so many different types of latching plug on the same car, all of which have some unidentifiable part which is the eject tab, and you guess at what it is and you press it till your fingers hurt and maybe if you guessed right it moves by an imperceptible amount and then there's a 20% chance that the connector will pull apart? Yes, I'm talking about you, you little bastards on the ice sensor. Two lousy 1/4" spades but dressed up in black plastic housings that looks like part of an alien spaceship and I spent about as long trying to get those two Spikey Canoes to unplug as I did wrestling the evaporator out.

I fully feel that frustration. I tried getting the cat heat sensor plug off then just ended up cutting the wires

I take it you are doing an air on delete? did mine a couple of years back and cannot recall any drama under the dash, ISTR using a coke bottle until I got the proper bypass pipe.

Yeah, I'm stripping out the same model of knackered R134a aircon system as I removed from my previous Roadster years ago. That time the evaporator came out easily but the engine bay pipe joins were solid so got chopped up. This time was the opposite; the pipes mostly unbolted easy as you like and it was the evaporator which put up a fight. The condenser was in a shocking state, big areas of fins missing and the rest just crumbled as I handled it.
I'm making space to refit the MS2 DIYPNP ECU I salvaged from my previous car. Removing A/C leaves a couple of very convenient holes through the firewall.
Actually, speaking of A/C condensers, I know they're hard to come by in the UK but in the US there seem to be fairly inexpensive aftermarket replacements. I've pondered repurposing a condenser as a chargecooler radiator. Mainly because it would be a perfect fit in the space, and the dryer clamp on the front is almost perfectly sized to hold a pump. Plus the pump would then be ideally located to be run by repurposing the A/C compressor clutch relay.
Does anyone know of anyone who's done this?

I took it out of the garage, pressure washed it then snow foamed it, let it dry then back in garage took the hardtop off, then put it up on four axle stands took the wheels off ready for a check up of the underside. I will give it a bit of Dinatrol love while its up in air.
