More cleaning over the last couple days - MOT now t-minus 6 days.... lol... let's see how that goes! Bought myself a snazzy JDM Runabout (Type 1) fuel lid which came up for sale so used this as the excuse to clean and scrub the area around the filler neck. Where the lid attaches, was pure filth, which was fun, but all clean and done now. Will put some pics in my thread
Looks good! No bonus points for being shiny for your MOT don't forget the basic stuff too

Started fitting my GC Fab door bars I picked up, thought a hole should line up with an existing grommet (fun fact: it doesn't), 2 hours to drill one hole! At least I've got one side done, just need to draw up spreader plates and get them cut, looks like the person before me was just running washers

Have you tried using some heat on it? That sounds like it's well in there. Yep, it is, and it's pretty well rusted too. I've used a heat gun but it's hard to see if it's heating the plug as well, as that would defeat the point. Not too keen on using a gas blowtorch under there as there's oil and road detritus that could easily catch fire. That socket might arrive tomorrow so I can give it another go with a better tool (assuming I can get it to fit without fouling on the exhaust...)
Success! The socket arrived on Friday and is a nice piece of engineering. Put it on the end of my breaker bar and it started moving straight away, even with the gearbox cold. Once I knew it was loose enough to undo, I took the car (and daughter) out for a spin to warm it up, put the car up on ramps/stands then undid the fill plug and the oil came flooding out of the fill plug, so it must have been refilled some other way previously and they chucked loads in! It came out fairly clean/green from the fill plug, but darker brown from the drain plug and there was some sediment/gunge on that, nothing major though.
Will put fresh oil in it soon, but in the meantime while doing the gearbox I managed to get my drain plugs mixed up and undid the sump plug instead of the gearbox plug, so I need to get some more engine oil and refill that before I can go anywhere. What a tool.

Finished off the gearbox oil job, or at least I think I have. Put about 2 litres in it via the fill hole, but it still wasn't coming out again so I put another half a litre in. Capacity according to Haynes is 2 litres so not sure where it's all going (and no, it's not coming straight out of the drain hole ) And I put some more engine oil in too, so it's ready to leave the garage again!

Went to try fit the gearbox back in it's home last night, thought I'd try the new front PPF bolt I bought (after losing my one/I've no idea where it's gone) as it's better to only have to fit it once.
Bolt would not go in, neither of them, what the hells going on? After more searching for the original bolt / a mild tidy of the garage /finding at least 5 spiders (the big bugger kind)....still no sign of it.
Managed to find a shorter bolt, so ran it down the captive nut from the top, my god it's tight in places. Tried cleaning bolt threads / applied copper grease / it's still still tight to screw in, but it's not damaging the threads as far as I can see.
Plan is to run it in/out a few times, then try get this box fitted.
I don't have a tap die set, but I think it might be time to get one.....or a big impact gun.

I was just playing on my laptop and bought a load of engine parts from Bofi Racing. Supertech big valve set, waterpump, head studs, main studs, wheelnuts, and a brake confuser valve. All pending my next bout of engine madness.
