I have now got the rev limit set at 8000 RPM. I should be able to do over 60MPH in second gear now. It will be intersesting to see if it affects my 64 feet launch times next year. ( Unless I break it first )

I sent them an email. They can make me a new manifold to fit the throttle bodies for £200+VAT, plus shipping. They haven't done one for these TBs before but their other stuff looks good so I just need to clean up the throttles and send them off. So maybe it'll be an M&S semi-DIY setup
Apart from getting the spacing right, are there any other things I should ask them to put in the manifold? Vacuum holes, sensor ports, oil drains or whatever?

I manhandled the hard top out of the loft and tried to get it fitted. Unfortunately I have the wrong Hard Dog roll bar for my glass window mohair top so it doesn't sit down enough to be able to engage with the Frankenstein bolts. I've left it secured by just the windscreen latches but if it hasn't settled down enough by tomorrow I guess the soft top has to come out

I adjusted my DIY brake stopper. It was previously an M6 bolt in a hole drilled and tapped in the strut brace, with a couple of nuts to hold it in position. The bolt head was up against the master cylinder, and metal on metal probably wasn't a good idea long term. While browsing carbuilder.com the other day looking for bits for my other project, I spotted rubber 'rivnuts' which look like this: So I chopped the bolt head off, screwed the rivnut onto it and secured it back up again. Should provide a better contact against the master cylinder and also prevent any scraping between the metal. I also spent a couple of hours trying to hack off the captive bolt for the rear ARB that had sheared off a couple of weeks ago when I put the new bushes on the ARB. Difficult to get at with any sort of grinder or even a Dremel, so I resorted to a hacksaw blade and a cold chisel. Much swearing later, it finally pinged out so I could replace it with a standard bolt. Looking forward to the rally tonight!

Wow it's quiet in here this week!
We ended up coming second overall in the 12-car, 0 fails 12 minutes and the same total as the crew who came first, but they clinched it on furthest cleanest. A great job by my novice navigator in his third event, and lots of fun driving for me. Need to work out why I was getting sparks from the driver's side front wheel under braking though...
Autosolo this Sunday should be fun too. 14 Eunos/MX-5s in my class, and a Scimitar SS1!

Wow it's quiet in here this week! 'tis the way of forums as to the 12-car, good result but if you didnt have fails then the winner was faster? re. the sparks, wheelbearing or caliper sliders (OR rust / scale on discs? ) Rich.

Our totals were the same, so they looked at furthest cleanest; we were both on zero minutes at TC2, but they dropped 2 minutes at TC3 while we dropped 3 minutes.
Brake discs are clean, and pads not worn too low. Will check the bearings and sliders yep - they're stopping the car well and not lopsided, so it's a bit odd. It was happening last year too and I thought it was due to the low ride height over my higher profile tyres, but I've raised the suspension 8mm using Jass spacers since then.

What pads are you running? I'v had the Hawk HP+ sparkle under heavy braking and the Carbone Lorraine stuff does it too IIRC. Unless something else is broken... lol

Doesn't seem to happen from the passenger side which suggests it's not the pads, but I've been thinking of changing them anyway. Need to give the car a checkup anyway as it's MOT time next month...

Hi Folks, I have put the Rs on Sorn. I don't want to use it on salted roads. It will give me a chance to fit the new M2 exhaust system when it all arrives.

I did an autosolo yesterday, at Brands Hatch - one test around cones in the paddock, one test on the rally tarmac stage. Best two times out of three runs, and I went the wrong way twice on the paddock test in the morning, which effectively screwed the whole event (penalty time for WT was 240s, time to do it properly 80–90s) and I came 13th out of 16 in my class Was still good fun razzing around in the sunshine though

I had a look at the front brakes last night; driver's side pads still have plenty of meat on them, though the outer pad was more worn than the inner. I swapped them over to see if it makes any difference. Passenger side both pads were the same thickness.
Building up to a bit of brake work, would like to put braided lines at the rear, rebuild the nearside rear caliper, fit a bias/proportioning valve and maybe get some new pads - will probably wait until after the MOT though as it's coming soon and I have a trackday and a rally beforehand so don't want to scupper those plans if something goes wrong.
