They are Pagid somethingorother, haven't changed them since I got the car. Doesn't seem to happen from the passenger side which suggests it's not the pads, but I've been thinking of changing them anyway. Need to give the car a checkup anyway as it's MOT time next month... I had a look at the front brakes last night; driver's side pads still have plenty of meat on them, though the outer pad was more worn than the inner. I swapped them over to see if it makes any difference. Passenger side both pads were the same thickness. Building up to a bit of brake work, would like to put braided lines at the rear, rebuild the nearside rear caliper, fit a bias/proportioning valve and maybe get some new pads - will probably wait until after the MOT though as it's coming soon and I have a trackday and a rally beforehand so don't want to scupper those plans if something goes wrong.
Weird - would uneven wear on pads indicate sticky pistons on one side of a caliper? TBH I think something is wrong on one side of my front brakes - I'm wondering if I've lost material or it's fallen out or something but it still just about stops, so...

Oh, and yesterday I (hopefully) fixed my headlights. Today I may actually drive it At least it's a bit warmer now, instead of the 3 degrees it was the past couple of days!

Ahhhh, how I love changing a flat tyre... at the side of the road... in the dark... when it's 3 degrees C... when the jack doesn't fit under the car unless I can squeeze some air in the flat tyre... I'm sure what looks like the original (!) spare emergency tyre will be just fine at three decades old and 60psi

Hard luck, a catalogue of disaster… lol I was just pleased I had a sacrificial towel (to kneel on), my tool kit (to remove the bolt on the metal bar holding the tyre down in the boot), some latex gloves, a decent length wheel nut wrench, and a tyre pump that a) worked and b) had a light on it. I knew carrying everything around all the time and having no boot space would come in useful one day...

Hi Folks, I have discovered that using cheap plastic tub for de-greasing is not a good idea. Result is a nicely de-greased garage floor using four gallons of Jizer. Whoops. I will have to find something stronger and buy another five gallon can of Jizer.
At least the sump main bearing support plate and rear main seal plate are clean. It was the block that made a hole in the plastic tub !!!

Hi Folks, I have discovered that using cheap plastic tub for de-greasing is not a good idea I use an old army aluminium 'wok' (cooking pan) and it's served well for ~20+ years Rich.

Wouldn't that be ridiculously low geared? Or is my somewhat lacking knowledge of gears etc showing up...? lol yes & no, all depends on use - I'm not building a roadcar & motorway cruising manners are not important subject of, I've just bought a Mazda Bongo front diff to investigate, hopefully the gears have same dimensions as Mx5's so interchangable & low ratios like Kia Sportage fronts I've just bought a 3J's LSD so now is the time to 'find' that ratio (I already have a 4.778:1 from a sportage BUT fancy something in the 5.1 range ) Rich.

Hi Folks, Not actually done anything on the car. The M2 motorsport exhaust system arrived at work today. Its all shiny at the moment. I took it home and unboxed it in garage and hid it so my wife does not see it when she gets her car out. She has not mentioned the engine in bits yet !! I have a lot of engines in bits so one more is easy to hide I must have five or six 1930s Austin Seven engines in bits around the place. Boxs flat packed for the mornings recycling.

Jump started it and then annoyed the neighbours by letting it idle for at least 10 minutes before risking taking it for a drive to put some power into it lol
