So I'm thinking of replacing my cat back exhaust with something with a little bit more character. I know absolutely nothing about exhausts though, so I would very much appreciate some advice from people who know more about these things than me!
My exhaust is (as far as I know) stock at present and doesn't really make a lot of noise at all. It's a bit dull when I'm hooning around the B-roads.
I don't want anything obnoxiously loud, just a little more burbly if possible with a little more bark when I have my foot down hard. I also would prefer not to have a deafening roar at motorway speeds as that would get pretty annoying on road trips.
I don't want to be attracting hate from neighbors or angry middle age men with garden shears.
I also don't like really raspy exhaust notes, I prefer a deeper tone.
Not asking much am I!
Any suggestions for me?

AKAutomotive 'Race' system - although I'm biased Larini - discontinued? but do come up secondhand - @horney and minty have them, IIRC!

Where's Josh? I have a cobalt cat back. It's not too loud, nice deep rumble!

If there's a website I can dump a crappy quality video off my ancient phone into without having to sign up to anything, let me know lol

Cobalt and leave the cat in. I love mine with this combo, easily gets through noise testing, but still has that classic howl when you put your foot down. Get a few pops on the overrun too which is a bonus.

Yup what tommyb said. Mines bone stock with the cobalt midpipe/backbox combo from Moss, and its perfect, not annoying (unless it leaks - mine did at first) and still has grunt when you step on it!
Also, girlfriend approves, so its a winner there too!

I still don't fully know how my Larini sounds as I have a clogged Cat and a slight blow at the cat joint. Going to go decat me thinks..
The AK sounds very nice, as does the cobalt (though possibly louder/deeper)

If your feeling flush the RB power pulse is the best quality system I've come across... mines got the silenced mid section and volume is good even with itbs!

Another vote for cobalt from me. Cat back with cat in and it quite a pleasing noise.
I wouldn't call it obnoxious at all. With the top down it sounds great!

Thanks very much for all your advice guys. I will investigate the cobalt, sounds pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Meerkat were you with us when the chap with shears told us off ? LOL. Haha yep! That was what I was subtly referring to there If you want to hear the cobalt happy to pop over one evening! Yes thanks! That sounds like a good plan, I'll pop you a PM in a bit.
