Guys
My bad luck with this little car continues. Bought a gasket for the turbo/downpipe, went to fit it and one of the studs snapped inside the turbo. I’m not much cop at this mechanic melarky, so figure by the time I try to remove the turbo, the find somewhere to take it to to get it removed, the refit it, I’m better off just taking it to somewhere to get sorted. Apparently the flange on the downpipe might be warped slightly too, that along with my boost spike issues makes me think I’m definitely better off finding someone to just sort it in one go. The there’s replacement studs, the nuts, what to use etc etc. Better of leaving this to someone who knows what they’re doing!
I’d love to take it to Skuzzle as they know the car, but that’s a 5hr round trip and as im likely to have to leave it there, that’s 10hrs of round trips, too much. So ideally want to find somewhere within one hour of me. I’m just outside Kettering in Northants. Can anyone recommend somewhere or someone I could take the car too?
Any help gratefully received. This car was supposed to be my fun over winter whilst my other car is fixed, I’ve got track days to do!

Are you sure you need a gasket for the turbo ? if it's a td04 type it shouldn't be necessary unless the flange is already bad. Inconel studs are recommended. Not a huge help but.. worth phoning around :-) www.google.co.uk/maps/search/motorsport/@52.399532,-0.8250402,11z

I sheared a stud on my TD05. I was able to drill it out at home on the drill press. The stud was very hard, I think Subaru must have spec'd some very high carbon studs for their turbos. I broke a few HSS drill bits before I switched out to a cobolt drill bit. I drilled it out oversize and repaired the thread with a helicoil. I wouldn't take this kind of job to a local garage, I'd suggest a machine shop or an engine builder. As for local specialists BBR GTI aren't too far away:

very good point, most garages won't even have a drill press.

I've taken my broken SC mount to these guys in Daventry- www.garagesinister.com/contact/to have it welded properly to rectify the piss poor attempt by the guys who fabricated initially.
