Mine was off the road for a good 6 months while doing the engine swap in 2014. After double checking all was done correctly, fired up first time
That was a good day

How did you press in the new bushes? I'm wondering if I'm going this far do I do all that now, or save it till next year. (If you want this tube I'm happy to send it on to you as (a) I'm not bloody doing that again and (b) it's ideal for the job. I don't need it back, just send it on to the next person who needs it when you're done.) Thanks for the kind offer martiny,I don't think I'll be changing bushes till the start of next year, but it'd certainly be useful to have. I'll send you a message.

Things are easy with a lifetime of experience, the confidence that brings, and a covered workshop/garage full of tools and equipment that means something breaking is not a problem...

Something we all hope to have one day...for now it's driveway plus halfords socket set and a couple of different shaped pliers

My back is aching. Been laying on the drive pissing about with the car... removing the front bumper after a million bolts located. Headlights resprayed. TSI rubbed down and resprayed. All the hardward moved over to my new bumper. Front spoiler cleaned up and made a bit more black. Cold and tired. Meh. Will update my thread with photos if it's dry tomorrow.

Indeed, but all the literature we refer to got finished...eventually. Rich.

Drove 40 mins to collect a steel brace bar to fit between the seat belt turrets. Because my car's a 1.6 I now need to work out a plan for fitting it. Presumably there is a tried and tested route for this?

Snomad typically they are bolted in using the same long bolts as the top of the seatbelt 'feeds', and you'll need a 17mm socket and then remember the bolt order Oh and try to do it on level ground..

Garage replaced a wheel bearing on the missus' car today - as mentioned / suspected, for some reason a nearly-new bearing had a massive pit/gouge in it, meaning it sounded like failure was imminent.
Probably should send it back and request consideration for a refund but it's a faff, it'll cost me the best part of a tenner to pack and post, and they are only 40 quid originally anyway.
Bonus was the garage chap only charged 40 quid for fitting, which was generous, and that included sorting the tracking.

Good deal on the fitting! I'd have guessed a wedge for that faff.

Bought a spare engine and a few other bits. Came out cheaper to buy from the UK and having it shipped over to France than buying directly from a scrapyard over here. Third of the price !

Front and rear bumpers are a pain. A job I'm glad is in the past. Twice for the front for me. Grrr Mine was up on ramps in the road for over a week when I tackled the front. I filled the holes and did a rattle can job which is looking very sad now. I ought to take the rear off sometime and I assume the bolts are going to just as rusty as the front. A rattle can patch of the rear is also not very pretty. Are you disposing of your old ones - I'm guessing they're still a lot better looking than mine? Unfortunately my neighbours seem to park like dodgem cars otherwise I quite fancy a shorty bumper like Zoonas
