Ok thanks guys.
I'm a bit manic with work to research this at the moment. Just got back in from working in London. I am limited to asking a few basic questions on the train journey at the moment!
What would you do? Get a mk1 new roof, or start all over with mk2 parts?

I'd just get a good second hand roof + frame from a MK2. You'll find it loads easier to fit, and it's a decent upgrade from the MK1.
But then I'm a Yorkshireman, and won't spend more than required.

Won't have the wiring for the heated glass window, something to keep in mind.

I don't think the heated rear window really matters too much TBH - given the heat the heater pumps out and the small cabin, any internal misting clears pretty quickly!

Yeh true, and you can remove the harness from the glass itself for a neater look.

I have heated seats and no button so the window will complete the set of useless accessories

You can wore up both the seats and heated window if you know what you're doing.

if you wore up both seats energetically enough you will steam up the heated windows in no time.

I will ask a sparky to do a few things on my car at some point.
Right I have a mid October appointment at JS. Ages away but there you go.
I am still open to other ideas. I'd like to pick up a mint mk2 frame and hood but I can't find one. I'd also consider a patch up job or another zip in plastic window. Anything is better than the gaffa tape hobo look.
Beers and takeaway to anyone who can find me something! I'm shattered after commuting. Zzz

Cheers. What sort of price would you expect to pay for a hood and frame? Ie, Max sensible price?

Cheers. What sort of price would you expect to pay for a hood and frame? Ie, Max sensible price? That might be a mk2 hood and frame on a mk1 car, I can't tell. I recon that one is worth 100 with the frame based on the prarrie canoee photos. If they produce better photos and it's clearly good.. a bit more. A high pressure washer and some hood restoration gear can do wonders.

I forgot to say I decided to wait for JS to fit anew hood. Just one question, he asked me which mohair material I wanted. Thoughts?
