My rear plastic window has a long crack type hole in it. I wanted to fit a hood with a glass window anyway. But now it is a minor emergency!
Can you please list some well rated trimmers who are known for doing MX5 hoods properly... Ideally near M25 or down south. I've only been told about jack smiths in Wales!
Secondly mine is vinyl and I wondered about just changing the window part. Thoughts?

Jack Smiths is the best by all accounts.
In the mean time Gaffa Tape is your friend. Were you unzipping your window before lowering the hood?

No! I never knew about that until it was already kinked up. No biggie as I wanted a glass window anyway. Just more of a rush now! So it looks like I have a looooooooooong drive soon then, if no one else is as good? Thanks

What about a nice mohair roof from a late mk2.5?
You can replace the whole thing in one go, fabric, frame, window the lot

Try Jill Judd / soft bits, they do 7ing bits, might be able to whack in a plastic screen there and then.

Thanks. Now I am seeing the plus point of timing. The place in Wales is booked up until mid October! So that is a last resort pencilled in.
If anyone can recommend places selling an immediate solution please let me know.

Not sure how easy they are to swap but a friend might well have a good plastic screen in Bromley. Will let you know...

There's a place that does hoods in chessington, end to end service etc. www.carhood.com/contact-us/If you were going to put your car away this winter, I'd just patch the hole and get it sorted next year, probably with a mk2 mohair hood (I'm a mohair snob and really like the mk2/2.5 hoods) you can probably get a mohair hood 2nd hand in half-decent nick for the price of a replacement window from mx5parts.. www.mx5parts.co.uk/plastic-rear-window-p-621.html

So if I buy a mk2 mohair top I will need the frame too, right?

So if I buy a mk2 mohair top I will need the frame too, right? Fairly sure the frames are different, but happy to be told otherwise! If you're swapping, get a MK2 rain rail as well, they're much less brittle than the MK1 ones.
