To build a reliable 1600 that revs to like 8k, you need to do like springs, lifters and all that jazz.
But like. Rly?
I had one of those crystal swapped ECU fandangled things and I regularly went to an indicated 8k+ RPM and the only thing that occurred was great glory and WinRAR.
So like, my question is: Has anyone lunched their engine big time from super loltastic regular visits to 8kRPM?
Thx.

Oil pump is your biggest concern. Regular extended visits to that kind of limit will see it implode.

It would appear that the major bottleneck on these engines is the poor flow of the standard cylinder head. Look at BLiNKs stage 3 results on here or fuzznutz, they have achieved great results on relatively mild cams/low revs. You need the head to be able to flow well and cams that will give good torque higher up in the rev band otherwise the power band is going to drop like a stone after 6500rpm. Also as admin says above the stock oil pump internals will poop themselves pretty quickly.

Is this oil pump destruction as true on the B6 tho? Well documented on BP builds that oil pump is required. But the BP has a worse rod ratio (short sharp inputs from combustion)...

Hi there. So far this is the best naturally aspirated one I've seen. It's a 1.8 though. This required a vast amount of cylinder head work to fit the oversize camshafts. No point in going to 8000Rpm though if your not benefitting from being there. Rich.

Nice - I bet it was cheap to get to that much power N/A... lol

And there lay the problems. That was a believe it or don't believe it ...... £10,000 engine build, boing!
I am genuinely interested though as to why the OP wants to go to 8000Rpm? So if he's reading .....?
Thanks. Rich.

Without lunching an engine. Would the 1.6 HLA's and general valve train be able to last at sustained limiter bashing?

To be honest .....
I have no idea what you are saying.

Don't worry Rich, you get used to him in the end. Transalation:
Yeah in reading. I'm just in straya. - Yes I am reading the replies although currently I am in Australia so I don't post much during UK hours.
Uh. Well. The only reason is to reliably go:
BWAAAAAAAA NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. - I want to have an engine that will reliably rev to 8K because I like the noise and drama.
Without lunching an engine. - Without it breaking something.
Would the 1.6 HLA's and general valve train be able to last at sustained limiter bashing? - This bit is luckily not in Fizbne speech.

Thank you Horney. Wish I'd never asked now.

Aren't the hlas only good for a max of 7400rpm.
