When I have job nterviews, I like to write in biro on my chest stupid immature slogans like 'I have a bigger canoe than you' or 'that shirt makes you look gay'...
... and every time you remember you've done it you naturally smile, making you seem a warmer, more relaxed person in the interview.
Like a boss!
*don't do this.

Offered the job. It's a bit of a cut in basic pay but the bonus scheme means it should be more in the long run. The pension scheme is lousy compared to my current place and it's 21 days holiday Vs 25 in the current place.
Taking the weekend to mull it over.

However, IMHO & being a lazy git, I'd go for the extra holiday & pension. What's the comparison between them in company stability/growth prospects?

Always a tough one, bonus is never guaranteed, and depending on your field a drop in salary can make it difficult to recoup with future moves as some companies will work your package based on what you have, though bonus when it is good can be cool, in my last company my bonuses/reward schemes were equal to my current annual salary, it was awesome and paid out for 5yrs I'm going to miss that Another issue with bonus are big financial commitments, mortgage/loans etc, don't often taken bonus into consideration as it is not guaranteed so you could be capped by your lower salary.

It's tricky. I'll put up some numbers that might help. Also my role is Account Manager so my job is keeping customers happy and selling them stuff. Last year I made sales and contract renewals worth £750,000. This year I've done £400,000 already.
Current Job
Salary: £XX,XXX
Car Allowance £6,500 per year
Bonus £6,000 - Based on no real metrics other then "Doing a good job" which I've only been paid once in 5 years due to lack of company budget. Same applies to all 2 other team mates.
Pension: Company contribute 8%
Perks: Free Bupa
New Job
Salary: £XX,XXX (roughly 8%) less than above salary
Car Allowance: £6,000 per year
Bonus: 10% of all sales - uncapped. First year expect to be £10K - £15K, year two with more clients expect £25K plus. Commission paid monthly in the month the customer is invoiced.
Pension: Company contribute 1%
Perks: none
So I know the guy there who currently does all the account management single handed and he got roughly £50K bonus last year. We'll be splitting the accounts with me having roughly 75% and him keeping the 23% top tier stuff.
So financially, as long as I get good sales I roughly get the same (maybe a bit more) I just have to throw more of my cash at my pension. The free Bupa is the real loss.
What can't be measured in numbers is the stress and frustration of working at my current place. I could write a lot here but essentially I can't do the job I'm paid to do currently very well because of some massive internal hurdles that after 2 years are just not going away. Working somewhere where not having to fight my coworkers just to get things done is worth more than money. Plus prospects in the new place are better. It's a smaller company (40 people) and just has amore of a family vibe to it.
I'm pretty certain I'll take the new one because after 6 years I just need to get out of my current place. I'm tempted to go back and counter the offer with " I'll take it if you stick 3% on the basic."

Wow. That was a bit of an essay. Also, I hope Anxiouswhensideways isn't reading this as he works at my place.

Dont need Bupa ... still got the NHS for now...
No way to bargain up on the salary? even if you can get it back to 4% short that would make the jump easier.
It all sounds like a pretty good idea if you think there is a good chance to be happier ... no way to put that into £'s.
Besides you clearly earn plenty given the rate you are buying MX5 rustboxes ...

Also living in basingstoke in a shoe box means our mortgage payments are on the rather small side leaving me to fritter money away on rusty japanese sports cars.
