Hi all. Due to my speedometer dying on my mk1 1.6 UK spec car. I have purchased another that I'm going to fit. Does anyone know how to adjust the tripometer so it matches the current mileage on the car?
Dead speedometer reads 80,000 miles, new used speedometer reads 174,000 miles approx. Any ideas on spinning it forwards, backwards or pulling apart, anyone attempted this? Cheers.

you can definitely run it forward I'm pretty sure they're made not to be easily run backward, because obvious legal reasons. look at the back for the big white input for the spiny cable. I think most people just accept that it isn't an issue and write down the different mileages for record keeping / future sale.

Have taken pic of it to record mileage. Plus I do have ocd-ish traits and I just know it's going to bug the heck out of me being over double actual mileage š
