If it is standard, gaps and iridium or not is fairly irrelevant. You only really need to worry about that when you are FI
You will need a 16mm long socket

Thanks for this thread - I was just about to ask which of the various plugs that are on MX5Parts / Autolink / etc. are best to buy for a 1.6, but if they're all the same at standard power...!

BKRE6E11 are the standard... and they're good even for lightly tuned or turbod cars (200hp?). I run them in both of mine which are far from standard. the iridiums just last longer, but standard plugs are so cheap just change them with oil. the performance is the same between normal and iridium.

Awesome, I'll add a set to the shopping list Early 1.6 Workshop Manual says 1.0-1.1mm / 0.039-0.043in for the plug gap - I'm guessing they will need adjusting? According to the manual I have the choice of: NGK BKRE5E-11 NGK BKRE6E-11 NGK BKRE7E-11 or Nippon Denso K16PR-U11 Nippon Denso K20PR-U11 Nippon Denso K22PR-U11 I have no idea how they differ from each other... lol

Cool, thank you - that's one new thing I've learnt today!

Adding to an old post I recently purchased long reach spark plugs from mx5parts and love them seems smoother and maybe the placebo effect but more power or at least a smoother delivery.

I'd be worried about smashing pistons into longer spark plugs if they were really long, lol.

I reckon some sparks are just more expensive than others, as long as it ignites the fuel air mixture... it’s when they don’t spark you have a problem. Remember the Bosch plugs with three electrodes?
