Love the bumper cut. How did you do it?

Printed off a template off bofi racing for double exhaust cutout, the drew a line between them at the highest point to cut the rest out.

So a little update from the last couple of months. Work and house decorating have taken up most of my time recently, but should have time to work on the 5 a bit more now. Before 5fest I needed to quieten down the exhaust a bit as it sounded pretty bad with the de-cat pipe in, I bought a silenced de-cat to get the noise down a bit to avoid any issues on trackdays. I also swapped the standard front indicators/sidelights out for clear ones as the old ones were going pretty green inside. Fitted a sunstrip as standard sun visors didn't do much where I've lowered the seat onto the floor.
Next up was 5fest itself, really good couple of days, I didn't stay for the Sunday as had a stag do to attend the Saturday evening. (stole some of Jacks photos here!)
I kept miss shifting into 3rd gear on the trackday when coming out of Nook Bend at Llandow, I think i got the 2>3rd gear-change about 3 times throughout the whole day coming out of here. After I got the car back home I had a look at the engine mounts and diff mount to find that the bushes in the diff where absolutely knackered. Engine mounts aren't much better so will be going for some polyurethane ones before I put turbo on. I bought some poly bushes for the diff, easiest way I've found of doing them is burn the rubber out then beat the sleeves out the diff afterwards.
Drivetrain feels much better since doing this, can definitely tell there is less twist in everything when applying throttle. I saw MX5parts had the KG works spoilers back in stock, I've been after one for ages and nowhere in this country had any in stock for a while. I had one on my last 5 and love the look of them. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it fitted yet, i do have some of the riv-nuts I put into the bootlid to affix it on though...
Also fitted polyurethane anti-roll bar bushes as mine had seen better days. That pretty much takes the thread to where I am at the moment. Next update should be the start of turbo related pieces...

Another monthly update! Haven't used it much since the weather has started getting worse. Ive swapped the engine mounts to Polyurethane ones, NVH is pretty bad now, but the car drives so much nicer for it. Shifts are incredible now and engine feels more responsive. I've also changed the wheels for some that Saadat was selling. These are my favourite for an MX5, my first MX5 had them on, and I've always wanted another set but can't justify buying them at new prices. Swapped the tyres over from my Rota's in the week and balanced them up today (ran out of wheel weights!). I've removed the badge from the front, and filled the holes, and also filled the holes in the boot-lid that were left over from the standard spoiler. Also got a new drivers harness with stock car style buckle which I prefer, and perspex front quarter windows (How racecar!) Tomorrow I have a washer bag to fit, so I can remove the bottle from the engine bay, and some interior parts to tidy up. Picture from a local meet a couple of months back...
Painted rocker cover in grey VHT wrinkle.
Poly engine mounts fitted,
Test fit of Compomotive ML, offset is a bit more aggressive than the Rotas which is nice.
Tyres on and balanced up.
General engine bay shot of where its at now. Inlet should be painted in next couple of weeks along with a few bits of the loom removed and tidied away.

Second trackday in the car complete, along with Jack and Phill. First time at Brands Hatch, loved the circuit and awesome weather to boot for a November day. Car was faultless all day apart from a leaky tyre valve which I had to go and get replaced in the morning, and running out of fuel in the evening whilst leaving the circuit (think my fuel sender might be stuck as shows 1/4 of a tank!) Was also struggling to get a good feel for the tyres in the morning until I dropped the pressures down a bit, and stiffened up the dampers, car felt much better after this. I've picked up a MK2 1.8 cheap which I'm going to swap the engine from into this as a project over Christmas (like I originally had planned), also brakes will be swapped over and differential. Will stick with the 1.6 clutch and flywheel though to keep it lighter. Also thinking about stepping up the size of the anti-rollbars. Love the new wheels, what I'd get if I had the money. Winter plans sound good, interested to see how keeping the 1.6 clutch gets on, first I've heard of someone doing that.

Looks ace on my old wheels. They’re doing the rounds, which member will have them next? Lol.

People in the states do it quite often. Extra grip from a 1.8 clutch and flywheel isn't really needed staying n/a. I ran my old turbo car with a 1.6 clutch and had no issues.

So I made some progress on the MK2 engine I'm going to fit to the car. Stripped it down to a bare block+head and started tidying things up. I've since replaced most of the bolts with either stainless or new ones so it looks a bit better than in the photos. Also modified some standard engine mounts to stiffen them up as the poly ones I fitted to the car previously are too harsh for using the car on the road, makes it no fun to drive. Also have MK2 torsen and brakes to fit once I've tidied them up. 1.6>1.8 conversion kit should be here soon so I can get the engine in, then just need to order an RPM switch from Summit to control the VICS. As usual I forgot to take many pictures, and those I did get are from my potato camera so sorry for the prarrie canoee quality! So fitted the 1.8 engine this weekend after finally getting hold of the conversion kit from Flyin Miata! All went smoothly, snapped the bolts off that hold the slave cylinder to the bellhousing so set me back a little bit getting those drilled out and threads cleaned up. Took me just over an hour to get the engine and box out the car, new record for myself! Started the job at 10am and was done by dinnertime, apart from modifying the exhaust downpipe and filling the box with oil which I waited until I could get the car on a ramp to do. FM kit worked spot on, only annoying part is its hard to get to the bolt which locks the CAS in place now, but not a massive problem. Also the crossover pipe hits on the bonnet structure a little bit. Started by painting last few bits up, IMG_20171209_155941 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr Then engine was ready to go in IMG_20171209_155954 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr Old engine removed, IMG_20171215_114959 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr FM adaptor plate mounted to inlet manifold, IMG_20171214_155008 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr Engine out, IMG_20171215_121402 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr end of play was left with this, IMG_20171215_222646 by Tom Burrows, on Flickr I ended up using the 1.8 mk2 exhaust manifold due to its 4-2-1 design, chopped the downpipe just after the last collector, added a flexi in and chopped the old 1.6 downpipe just after to match, all fitted really well with no rattles or anything which is nice. Just waiting on an RPM switch to arrive now to get the vics working. Extra power from the engine is definately noticeable, especially past 5k rpm, needle shoots around the tach once it gets past 5!

The car has been on daily driver duties the past 2 weeks due to my Tailgate McNoIndicate prarrie canoeting its crank pulley! Normal service has resumed now though so treated the Roadster to a wash to get all the salt off. Engine has been spot on bar a tiny coolant leak, tightened a jubilee clip and it fixed that issue. Going to switch the Torsen diff in and MK2 1.8 brakes over the Christmas break, and try and paint the hardtop and windscreen surround as they are worse for wear.
