I get the impression that they are really professional good guys but I'd really appreciate some feedback from you guys. I'm about to invest a considerable (for me!) amount of money with them having the bodywork sorted out. Help me stop being a pussy

Regardless of who does the work, take their estimate and double it. If there's rust there will be more that you can't see. Then you'll only be pleasantly surprised rather than horrified

I have no trouble recommending them, but they are top dollar, basically because the do the job correctly and don't cut corners. For me that's fine as I am keeping the car forever (well, unless they start selling for £50K) and its worth the investment. Of course, Mrs Rusty thinks it cost half the amount I paid

Absolutely amazing work done by them. Top notch and worth every penny. Just beware that it is likely to be more than they estimate as it is difficult to judge exactly the extent of the work

Canoe it. I'll get it in there. I've got sentimental ties to the car so it'll need doing either way. Canoeing rust

I'll be taking mine either here or Total Mx5 repair (Im slap bang in between both) - have not heard a bad word about either of them.
However, after I get a quote I may sadly decide to break it if I cant afford it (I notice I have rust on all 4 corners - so its quite likely)
Did you send them photos for the quote, or did you drop it round?

Did you send them photos for the quote, or did you drop it round? Photos mate. I'm calling Garath today to get all options sorted. Sounds daft but the car is registered on my daughters birthday so I'd like to keep it. It looks nice apart from the scruffy sill but I'm sure it's eaten itself inside out. Even with the worst case the car will owe me less than £2k so I guess it's not the worst investment. Bloody cars! :/

If its just the sill it shouldn't be too expensive hopefully.

FWIW, I look at my two roadsters and think "I want to have these still in 5, 10 years time" and... that's what sums up my attitude to them.

My personal thinking is I ask myself "what would a mint low mileage R-Ltd cost to buy in 2 years time?"
I figure even if I spent 2.5/3k on body work, I probably wouldn't be far off breaking even.
However, the other half just keeps saying "how much!?!?!? you said this car would be cheap to run!!"
D'oh!!!

There is no reason they will become any more expensive to own once any rust is sorted. Then again yours isn't a standard red uk model Minty, my mrs Octavia vRS just had a new air con pump and rad. £700. That's definitely not cheap to run!

It's booked in! Lovely bloke. One side to be done with advice on the other. No pressure or up selling.
Fingers crossed!
