My eldest son worked on them, air radar, the plane that replaced them, the Tornado went out of service last month... great aircraft, the RAF version had RR engines

Always loved the look of Phantoms, with that dihedral kink in the wings and those anhedral tail fins which make the tail almost triangular. That was a fine example of what a jet fighter ought to look like, to my young mind. Used to be a thrill watching them take off from Leuchars on family holidays in the '70s. The only F4 pilot's opinion I ever got (from a guy who always called them "bricks") was that they at least proved the saying that with enough power you could make anything fly.

Leuchars was great, they used to scream in from the see about 50ft up, last time I was there the Vulcan displayed, the noise made your lungs vibrate!!
