Here's one to ponder over a beer in the garden...
Over the past year and a half, I have gradually sorted the car, and am now scratching my head on what to do. I sort have got the tinkering bug, and feel I want to go a step further. However, I still want the car to remain 'standard/reversible' in terms of any mods. So to date I have:
Replaced springs/shocks with Meister CRDs Tyres (Sportrac) and 4 wheel alignment completed - wheels kept as 14 inch Dasiys (am I the only person who likes these?) Front and rear lower braces 14 deg timing Brakes replaced, and new stainless brake lines Cobalt exhaust Jackson Racing CAI Delrin door bushes
So what next? What would you do? I don't wish to go down the FI route with this car. Cosmetics/servicing all done, but I am wondering if I should think about chassis bracing with rails and a butterfly brace. Seems very mixed views on these, and she isn't going on a race track. Am I just adding underside bling and weight for minimal gain or destroying the ride by stiffening too much?
Anyway, wont rush on this, but interesting in your views. In the meantime, I think I will head to Skuzzle to see what the Dyno says (and probably weep for a day or two), and ensure she is tuned up correctly.
Of course, I might just go completely mad and buy/build a separate track day focused car...

enjoy driving it and spend the money on petrol (i.e. take it to some fun places to drive) and maintenance instead of mods.
sounds like you've got the car near as perfect for your wants.

I wouldn't add any more bracing for a road car. It's also no longer reversible as you'll be drilling holes in the car.
Edit: just read your build diary so can see what you've done so far. Such a clean car! If you must spanner (as I must! Enjoy the tinkering more than the driving!) then why not: Upgrade clutch lines Fit ARB bracing blocks Upgrade to Rodders Pads Find some of those billet wiper stalks I believe FreakyParts made before Buy some DaveFab bits e.g. scuttle washer bottle Get to grips with Megasquirt and Autotune Make your own toggle switches for windows/pop ups/hazards/other things or get Jass ones Wire in an electric aerial Cabin brace Upgraded headrest speakers Retro style head unit So on and so forth

Damn, your car is well sorted. I just paid the build thread some attention too. @moca2cv has made a rather nice list of internal finishing work. It does make the car more pleasant to be in. Other ways to spend money.. Get a torsen LSD fitted. And if you're feeling like it, one with a higher FD ratio, as per the sikdiff recommendation here: trull.org/alex/media/pics/car/mx5/atmocharging.htmlIt *unleashes jin-bai ittai*. Basically, rev the hell out of it, responsibly like.

Liking some of these suggestions, and as no one has suggested the braces, I will scrub them from the list.
I do have a hankering for ALL of DaveFab's stuff so think I will start warming up the credit card, and yes, I have also thought about an ME221 plus some cams. I will have a chat with Mr Skuzzle when I book in for a rolling road session.
Ive held back on the track day, but I think I need to give it a go. Used to race RD350LCs back in the day, but some tuition would certainly not go amiss. As I live 3 miles from Dunsfold and the old Top Gear track (not the new rubbish one), I will have a look at that. Shame I am away for the impending events, otherwise would have been there.
I just love driving her (and tinkering)!

Talking of Dunsfold reminds me - the Caterham 7 club hold a handling event there every year, maybe we should look in to doing similar... track days there are a no no though as the TG track is a figure of 8
