Yup - only one wire is needed in most circumstances, but you might need a metal shim to get a decent connection. Show us a pic of the horn button (the rear) - it should have a bit of metal on the side for the earth return, or you can just wire it/solder it for the return.

My mk1 doesnt have airbags. The horn only has the live connector and the ring on side which makes the ground to the hub. The nrg qr has x2 wires hub side to connect and also 2 steering wheel side? Was undure how they pass through?

It's a good setup. You only need one if the boss is earthed, which it is on a mk1/mk2 :-) I'm running this same setup on mine. No issues. Alex
