Who would have thought it would take this long to fit some gauges... I thought I might have taken too much material off the top edge of the gauge pods, which would be the most visible bit (typical),so trialled mocking them up, I think if I can get them to compress into the crash pad evenly then the top edge shouldn't be visible, so a bit more messing about with the brackets and hopefully that's that. IMG_20210815_151926 by Scott Reid, on Flickr I did in a moment of desperation buy an IL motorsport gauge pod to see if that fit better, but the holes I've cut are too large. So if anyone wants one let me know before I list it on Facebook. Bolts for the supercharger arrived, everything fits fine, except on the supercharger inlet, I've bought some imperial bolts to see if they clear (Imperial bolts have smaller heads, thanks Zed), if not it'll take something a little more permanent to solve. Anyway, hopefully more progress next weekend.

Started the gauge pods on the 6th of July Still going strong, both a rewarding and hateful task... Decided wouldn't be happy with the gaps I'd made at the top, if I didn't fix it now it'd bug me for the rest of time. So naturally, took them off and sanded them down and proceeded to faf about with body filler (which smells nice) for a while. I don't think I'm too far off it now. Should have really listened to "thou shall not get trigger happy with the dremel" but I'll know for next time. No photos, as...well you've seen this bit already. Bought some wires of varying colours to start mocking up a harness, I've decided to pull switched 12v from the fuse box under the dash, via an inline blade fuse holder ( THIS THINGIE) as I don't want to hack up my harness. Plan is to pull the dimming signal from the ashtray bulb, as I don't use this at all. Pull everything through into the engine bay through one of the obsolete A/C firewall grommets. I think the only big things to still get are the intercooler pipework, but I found a local guy who can weld aluminium if I cut and mark up the pipework, so there are plans in place. Just need these gauges in place!

Damn, I can see this is getting to you. Easy on sniffing the filler lad. I think I'll just stick to a simple vent gauge going off this lol

I think I'll just stick to a simple vent gauge going off this lol It's my own fault really, if I'd taken more time with the dremel I'd be a lot further down the road. Not the pods themselves it's just me taking too much material off. If you bought the pods pre-finished from Russell or IL Motorsport you wouldn't have this issue. I just couldn't go for the vent option, I just like having functioning vents for some daft reason. If you want a vent pod that's prepped for a gauge (AEM UEGO Wideband), I can chuck it in the post for you if it's any use, otherwise it's destined for the bin. It's that "Fat Boy" body filler, smells good

What's that saying? measure twice before cutting and I thought you had them pointing in the wrong direction ... till I remembered it's a RHD

What's that saying? measure twice before cutting and I thought you had them pointing in the wrong direction ... till I remembered it's a RHD The dremel is not a tool of precision, more of feel! I bloody hope they're pointing the correct way! Since I'm still waiting on paint to dry, I thought I'd have a break from gauge pods, fitted the vented quarter-light and replaced the weather strip whilst I was in there. PSX_20210829_204414 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Quick test drive, if you're like me and deleted your non-working A/C, this thing shifts some air. It'll be ideal when I run the hardtop over winter. might even get one for the passenger side. The window cup thingy, is going slightly yellow as it was second hand, but I think I can fix that.

Between holidays and work, absolutely nothing has been happening with the 5, I've just booked it in for another autosolo at Knockhill on the 31st though. I think after that I'll get it up in the air again and start on the SC/ECU install.
Got some IL bonnet lifters sat waiting to go on, cheap Ebay find. Also just decided that the 2nd hand ali rad I have isn't worth fitting so I've sourced a new one which should hopefully come in a few weeks.
Hopefully more interesting updates to follow over the next few months.

Won't that let in lots of rain too? Or is there some way to close it?

That's a picture of it fully open, it closes flush, I've not tried yet but apparently only lets in a tiny amount of water if you blast it directly with the pressure washer.

Supplier cancelled my rad order as the last one left was damaged (yeah right!), so got some feelers out for a second hand mishimoto unit, good thing I'm not in a rush.

OWF UCKINMUCH? I bought a complete car with hardtop for less than that! Rich. I mean new parts are pretty pricey when they look this good... I think the smaller core is sub £300ish. I doubt you bought that recently lol, just got an agreed value through of 10k on mine (inc. all fancy parts)

I got a mishimoto on my Honda, it's really nice and has a lifetime warranty.
I've got an M2 rad for the mx5, not fitted it yet but it was a good price at the time. I'll update when it's been on a while.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, managed to pick up a second hand Mishimoto unit, for the same price as the cancelled unit, so that's pretty good.
10k agreed value is great, I need to sort out agreed value on my policy.
