Spent some time buttoning up the throttle body/intercooler piping, everything back in position. As per atlex's suggestion, I've just installed a cheap catch can on the intake side (just waiting on the pipework), utilising the charcoal canister bracket - going for a non-vented system with a drilled out PCV and NRV. Got the bonnet vents fitted up and some edge trim on the underside to cover some of the cuts that were made, also tried adjusting the filter, so it's underneath the bonnet, it's close - I think I'll need to get a slightly smaller Pipercross unit, with the added benefit that it'll be easier to make up a filter box should I need to. They look pretty subtle black on black, so hopefully functional also: IMG_20221114_170201 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20221114_170150 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Managed to get the filter pretty much where it needs to go, for the short term: IMG_20221114_160049 by Scott Reid, on Flickr It might increase the BOV volume, could be the only real downside. They don't sit above anything vital as far as I can see.

Nice, any pics from the front a bit further out (ie with garage open)? I'm sure it looks proper mean. I'm still unsure of what I'm doing with my PCV setup but this seems to be one of the options I've seen...

I've only got these 2 just now, wasn't going to move it till I get the new catch can hooked up, as I cleaned behind the TB already: IMG_20221114_171512 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20221114_171516 by Scott Reid, on Flickr I've read a lot of people moving to AN-10 lines if they're turbo, to allow more flow, not sure if that'd be required with an ITB setup, maybe if you move to one port instead of 2?

Finally test drove the car after fitting the new alternator, a lot of running issues seem to have been resolved: no longer tries to die on cold idle, doesn't almost die with fans/lights turned on (hot & cold). Good shift for a 30 year old alternator, I'd check yours if you have any of the symptoms above.
Also bought a smaller intake filter, after adjusting the old setup it was sitting on the inner wheel well and vibrating at idle, the new cone is a more tapered end so should clear nicely, added benefit is it'll make the DIY shield clear the turbo actuator far better. No real world data on current under bonnet temps as I'm in the process of changing laptops, but will update when I know.

While since the last update, essentially nothings happened. Disconnected the battery and it's sat for about 7 weeks, slightly longer than intended but a garage door malfunction entombed the car for an extra stay. Not a bad thing as it's rained/salted/snowed here solid since I got it back from the tuner. Took it a short test drive to blow out some of the cobwebs, feels good to drive, but needs an alignment once I reset the front coilover height - front springs have compressed a fair bit more.
I've got some more parts still to throw at it, but also the passenger sill needs some attention again. So just trying to plan when to start as the new exhaust will need a tune adjustment once on.
Also picked up a set of Subaru 4pot Brembos and 300mm discs, they need a bit of a tidy up, so once I've done that I might shift them on or try fit them. Get a set of sport big brakes for the rear as I need new pads anyway. Not 100% sure what I'll do yet, they look massive compared to the stock units, added bonus is no slider pins. If anyone wants a set let me know.
Considering losing the door bars and running some bucket seats also, as I can't seem to find anything that allows me to run both, all the guaranteed to fit seats require a 33" waist - which I haven't been able to claim ownership of in some time.
I've got some parts to shift on before I really get into it, so we'll see how long that takes.

a set of sport big brakes for the rear might have calipers / carriers in the stash although aparently you can use earlier (non-sport) rearcalipers in the sport cariers a 33" waist - which I haven't been able to claim ownership of in some time. know the feeling Rich.

I watched a Beavis motorsport video that suggested the same but haven't researched it much past that, if it is the carrier and you have some let me know I'll send some money through, if you'd post. Alas my frame is built more for robustness and not speed! I think elise seats would fit but they're daft money now and not all have harness holes.

Just for the records, as the last time I couldn't remember how long it was up in the air, cars now back on jack stands, got a couple things to resolve. PSX_20230115_220554 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Pretty short list so shouldn't be too long off the road: - Raise front suspension as it's settled slightly too low. - Change MX5parts cat back out for the 2.5" M2 single exit. - Refresh all brakes - Subaru brakes or sport big brakes. - Hunt down a coolant leak - it's not the usual places, could be the rads got a hole in it. - Send it off for final tuning. - Get an alignment sorted out. Anyway, thought I'd start with the front suspension, keen to see if the coilover socks and ACF50 had done it's job, they were fitted in July looking at my photos - admittedly not done a hug amount of miles. IMG_20230115_200311 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Pretty pleased with that, considering the cars had a hard few miles and driven in some very wet conditions, I think I'll run these religiously. IMG_20230114_175127 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Will clean off and re-apply before I button it all up, half way through adjusting the coilover heights, my garage heater packed up a while ago and I never replaced it which was a mistake!

Managed some more time this week in the freezing garage, have reset the front right coilover - when trying to adjust the height I'd backed off the pre-load so pulled it out to start from scratch. Please note nice shiny brake disc and refurbed carrier. IMG_20230118_205035 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Old car mats are great for sitting on a cold floor, top tip. The ancient Hammerite I used has held up great, in comparison to the new Waxoyl on the back, which seems to promote surface rust and then peel off. New M2 single exits on, I've got to mess about with the gaskets as the M2 stuff doesn't seem to play well with others, the flange angle seems just slightly off. It looks good though and clears the mk1 1.8 rear ladder brace, even with 2.5" pipe and a resonator in that spot. IMG_20230121_140227 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Next, set about looking into what was needed for fitting the mk2.5 Big Brakes, here's a before - standard mk1 1.8 front brake with a 255mm disc - with the added benefit of being absolutely seized on - supplying 100% trail braking all the time. IMG_20230125_195204 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Side by side, 255mm versus 270mm, 15mm never looked so good. IMG_20230125_215946 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Mocked up in position, must mention I like how they revised the slider pins on these compared to the mk1, the pins split in 2 so when tightening you don't end up spinning/twisting the rubbers in the calliper. The callipers are defiantly chunkier than the mk1's as well, but looks to be the same piston in each. IMG_20230125_215714 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Test fit with calliper and wheel, its a fair bit tighter in there than before but plenty clearance: IMG_20230125_223113 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20230125_223122 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Braided brake hoses fit fine and offer plenty length for steering travel, still need to order up Rodders pads. Also got myself one of these with some Christmas vouchers, takes a bit of getting used to but very handy so far. IMG_20230125_222958 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Hopefully some more progress soon.

I got one of those Ryobi tools for Christmas too!
Did you have to do anything with the brake backplates?

I got one of those Ryobi tools for Christmas too! Did you have to do anything with the brake backplates? Ryobi stuff seems pretty well made for the price, I've got the light as well, just need some bigger batteries. Back plate clears all the way round, except where the ball joint is, I needed to bend it slightly, but nothing needed cut yet which I was surprised about. The rears might be different as they're 251mm vs 276mm discs. I'll get a better picture next time I'm out to show clearance.

Not as drastic as on my Legacy though where there was a lot of hacking required!

Managed a couple hours over the weekend, things are certainly tight down by the pedals. Not as bad a job as I thought, the old booster certainly had seen better days: IMG_20230127_182842 by Scott Reid, on Flickr IMG_20230129_173122 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Swapped in the mk2.5 booster, with the mk2 non-abs master cylinder, reusing the mk1 master cylinder short lines (fingers crossed no leaks). IMG_20230129_163335 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Haven't filled with fluid yet, but going ATE Super Blue, once I order it and the brake pads. My exhaust and coolant leak are both fixed so that's good news, let the car warm up for a bit: Click to watch video petal_20230129_221845 by Scott Reid, on Flickr Hadn't realised how loud the turbo is. Brakes are the last thing on the list before re-tune, so hopefully not too far off having it running and driving in time for warmer weather, maybe even get some photos outside of the garage this year!

Yes both fronts didn't need much bending, do you know if it's the same for the rears? I didn't take many photos when I did the job last spring, but from the one I found, either I cut most of the backplate off, or there wasn't much to fettle. I suppose there's less need for ducting around the rears since they don't work as hard and don't have good airflow anyway?
