It's taken me a while (must spend more time here) but just been reading though Atlex's Scottish honeymoon thread - great photos and a brilliant trip, there's nowhere quite like Scotland for a good road trip. We've done a fair few long trips, both on bikes and in cars over the years, mostly Europe and a couple of tours over in Canada, but Scotland has a certain something that you find nowhere else in the world - the indefinable "x factor" (note the lack of capitals there ) We did a run up there earlier this year, sadly not in the Mazda but by Focus, and ended up on the Outer Hebrides. I'm a self confessed road trip tart and just love looking through other peoples trip photos etc. so assuming there are others out there with a similar fascination for seeing where folks get to here's a link to our wee Scottish trip tale: www.dewisant-photography.net/y_ogb_Scotland%20&%20Hebrides_2017_page_1.htm

The Black Watch is a Fred Olsen cruise ship. Atlex. Tiny thing for a cruise ship, bobbed about like a cork on water.

They're very cosy I said to the missus it would be good to stay there but she reckons I'd get fed up with the tourists gawping into the windows. Great place to stay though, but I wonder what it'd be like to go hardcore and stay in the one at Arnol, the smoke from the peat fire had me choking within a couple of minutes We were boring and rented a house in Stornoway - a short walk to a good chippy and a decent pub

Chippies up there are a set apart. The one in Tobermory was so good I went there twice and had seconds twice.
If you can stretch to it I can recommend battered scallops.

I <3 Scotland long time I've been to Skye on a gloriously sunny day, and it's like nowhere else I've been. And the driving! Just awesome when the roads are quiet.

You're not wrong Atlex, fresh fish is amazing. The only other place (no pun intended ) we got fish 'n chips anywhere near as good as you get on the Scottish Islands was in Reykjavík, but they cost an absolute fortune - like we had to go find a cash machine kind of fortune... as we did for the curry house the night before, but that's another story.

You must have got lost - it's never been known for it to be sunny on Skye It is an incredible place and if you do drop on with the weather all the better. We've been a few times and still not explored all of it, it's bigger than it looks. My lad and me did a dad 'n Lad run up there in 2014 in this, I went from this to the RS via a Z4: Ten minute tour of the Western Highlands in a 5

The road to Applecross was a favourite of mine: And the top of the NC500: Wicked music. Is that top of the NC500 bit heading north up here ? I recognise the slant of the mountains, I think.. www.google.co.uk/maps/place/A838,+Lairg,+UK/@58.4986,-4.7530834,12z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x489027bc8986b8c7:0x1a41f8c4fe645256!8m2!3d58.2552221!4d-4.7551433

I believe it was a short while after leaving John O'Groats, but my memory of the whole trip is rather hazy - it was a 30th birthday celebration, and there was copious amounts of alcohol in the evenings. That's just what I had left on my dashcam when I got back!
