Keeping it short, I could use some help, I've been using the Mrs's car whilst the 5 is getting re-assembled, but she now needs her car for work and I need a run about to tide me over for 6 months.
Budget is not huge to be honest, I've been looking at NB Mx-5's in the 1k region, but also see a lot of folk going the Mini route.
Any advice on which to go for within budget? Things to avoid?
Open to other suggestions, budget 500-1500 (potentially higher for the right thing).
I'm not looking for a second project so would need to be good to go and reliable.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction?
Cheers.

What are your travel habits? Long commute? Short trips to the shops? Do you need high MPG? Do you want nippy fun or ultra-reliable dullness? lol The Car Buying section of the Pistonheads forum would likely recommend: Yaris D4-D (chain driven, goes forever, loads in budget) Fiat Panda 100hp (lower end of the market) MX5 Suzuki Ignis Sport (reckon you might get a minter for 1.5k)

I missed all the important stuff 25 minute commute through Glasgow, with the odd 320 mile round trip to the parents, decent-ish MPG would be handy, nippy fun preferred but cheap maintenance. I'd forgotten about the Ignis, they seem popular also, none for sale anywhere near me though.

Nissan Micra or Zuki Ignis.
Mini would be fun but the modding bug will bite you if you buy one.

Ooh, good call. They're mostly rusty as a 5 now but there are a few minters out there - 1 owner VGC for Ā£650 on PH ads last week! Might as well get a cheap rusty one for winter use, though.

Audi A3 1.8 turbo - cheap as chips now, and a Quattro might be useful in the winter, can get a good un for a grand

Vvt-i celicas are great cars and can get good ones within budget So long as you get the 180bhp version. The 140 version is not so reliable unfortunately T Sport Corolla is super cheap, easily found for Ā£1500 but thirsty. Iām ashamed to say my i30 1.6tdi is amazing. Bit dull though. Civic vti is another great car. Thirsty again though.
