This is a bit of a rant. It doesn't belong on social media it belongs here. Maybe this shall now become the rant thread.
What the Canoe is with people like this. Anything you've done they've done 100 times better.
When they were my age they were earning x amount more.
They've done my job with their hands tied behind their backs.
They do x x x volunteering (not that anything is wrong with volunteering, but I don't need it rammed down my throat all the time)
Well.
Nobody cares. Do your job. Go home and shut up. Don't make me out to be the big miserable bad man sat in the office to people I've worked with for several years.
Canoe.
I'm going to the pub.

If people need to denigrate others (overtly or by inferrence) in order to feel better about themselves, that probably says a lot about how insecure they are deep down so take heart from that! You are leading your life, they are leading theirs - whether or not their self-aggrandisement is inflated or from actual experience, let them waste their energy on tryng to prove how good they apparently are, meanwhile you can focus your energies on things that actually realise benefits to you and yours Doesn't stop them needing a slap, though lol

Mate I’m the whipping boy in our circle. I really don’t have much exciting going on but I’m happy with my lot. In any social or work situation my tour around Spain is met with their tour of Route 66. Blah blah. You get my drift. Sod them mate. They don’t have an MX5 do they

I have an mx5 so they must have 2.
I honestly have given up. They have the hump I have "cut hours".
It is funny how people sign a contract for x hours and then moan when all they get is x hours.
But they can't do x and can't do y.
I'm back from the pub and I feel better now.

Only sane response is to take the piss.
Explain that you used to have 2 ferraris but you've decided to switch to 3 bugattis as they better suit your sunday driving needs.
Explain that you're worried about them taking too many loo breaks and that you've calculated they could half their lunch if they got their butler to deliver marmite sarnies at 11:55, saving the company money.
And so on.

Have known a few like that, Urban Dictionaries definition is:
One Upper: An annoying person who responds to hearing someone else’s experience or problem by immediately telling a similar story about themselves with a much more fantastic (or terrible) outcome.
Hearing how great things used to be and the classic "back in my day" are also equally up there.

Its called black cat syndrome, if you have a black cat, they have a blacker one.
I had a good one at work a few weeks ago, I've been training this lad who thinks he's the best machine op in the company, and to be fair he's pretty good on most of the machines but has little experience on my line, well I was trying to give him some advice when he basically said he new it all etc and I should mind my own. This was a dumb idea as unbeknown to him we had a trial run coming up on his designated line and I new he'd never get it running. After three hours he asked someone to ask me for help lol. I refused of course, well he new it all, eventually our business unit manager told me to sort it, was fun watching the arrogant twat struggle though.
He listens to me now

... Anything you've done they've done 100 times better. When they were my age they were earning x amount more. They've done my job with their hands tied behind their backs. Mrs Y's friend suffers from a boss like that. Nobody is as good as her. Nobody does their job as well as she used to. Except she's actually a liability, but she won't get reprimanded when she screws up because she's married to a director. And there's no point going to HR about her bullying because she's the HR person's mum.

The thing is this person only works y hours a week.
Yes, may have been working overtime but now there is no call for it, and I have a budget to stick to So any overtime is probably covered by me - because I can work it around my 40hr week. So they have the hump. The same hump people who quite happily take on a 0 hours contract get when they aren't needed for a while. The same hump people who work in businesses such as the one I work in get when they have to work over Christmas, Bank Holidays and Easter. And weekends. I haven't had a Saturday off in months, barring a weeks holiday.
A gem I had the other day was they were earning xxx thousand per annum when they were my age.
Laughable.
I went to the pub last night with the missus and had a nice meal and got wrecked. Felt terrible today but have spent my day off playing Vice City. (If you have ps plus, get the gta pack for 11 quid on the psn store for retro goodness!)

I worry if I come across as the Canoe sometimes. I'm very lucky to have an incredibly organised and driven wife who drags me around the world to do things I never even knew existed, and I can get a bit carried away in my enthusiasm for the experiences...
Anyway, tsp Tom - tell us more about your Spain trip - some amazing roads down there and even better food 😍

It can be a good thing as well though. For instance someone posts up a trip or whatever and it jogs the memory of people who have done similar things, so they feel the need to write about it. I actually like reading about the interesting things that other people have done (some of them have even been instrumental in helping me plan my own stuff at times). I suppose it's why we have forums and other social media platforms - to share experiences and ideas. I agree though, there are some knobs out there who go a bit too far at times.

I have done a lot of things and been on some great trips with great mates from here and nutz. The 9 day Europe trio with seven of us in 2013 was epic. The mini Wales weekender last year was epic too.
But I don't claim to be a spaceman, a brain surgeon and a pilot all at once.
Never mind such is life I've got a lovely missus a job that isn't great and doesn't pay much but pays the bills and affords me a life I'm comfortable with. Don't need other's negativity and bullprarrie canoe. I'm the bigger man :-)
