There's been a few people interested in having a go at the Classic Marques Championships for next year. It's a good competition as mechanical mods are allowed (apart from sequential gearboxes & no 4wd/kit cars) as it's based on power to weight, so if you have a 500hp/500kg monster costing £££££££ you have to drive it as proportionally quickly as a 90hp/1000kg car which was £ on ebay. There are separate classes for various cars & MX5s have their own.
Sports car & sports saloons only too.
If you've never tried any motorsport & want to try a fair competition, give it a go.
If anyone wants more info just ask.
Here are the dates (you don't need to do them all as your best 8 points are counted!)-
2 April Croft 21 April Gurston 22 April Gurston 28 April Goodwood 5 May Ty Croes 6 May Ty Croes 19 May Snett 100 20 May Snett 100 26 May Prescott 3 June Harewood 9 July Abingdon 14 July Lyddon 28 July Castle Combe *TBC 4 August Loton Park 5 August Loton Park 19 August Curborough 26 August Harewood 8 Sept Wiscombe 8 Sept Blyton 9 Sept Blyton 15 Sept Shelsey 16 Sept Shelsey 6 Oct Goodwood 20 Oct Castle Combe *TBC

Think the most expensive was Goodwood at £140 & the cheapest was Blyton at £75 ish. Safety gear wise it’s comes under MSA roadgoing speed/hillclimb regs, so helmet/suit/gloves. If you want to look at the exact regs, they’re section S of the blue book- www.msauk.org/assets/bluebook2017completevlow-res.pdf

You don’t need a cage or roll bar
You don’t need a race seat.
You don’t need a harness.

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I guess you need a racing licence for this?. If so is it just a case of doing the ARDs test?

Is cmscc.co.uk the main site, I’m looking at it for info an doesn’t look like it’s been updated since March? Where do you go for updates, event reports, historical results etc, to get a feel for the championship?
I’ve been considering a different route to HSA for next year but one of its draws for me is all the info and data that I can review, they are really on the ball.

Think it will be the midland championship and Gurston champs for me in 2018. Does look like a good group in the classic marques. Will see you guys around the hills no doubt!

Hi Sandy
There’s a lot of info on the Classic Marques Facebook page.
The results are in the paddock on race days after each run.
There is a digital club mag ‘Oily Rag’ that generally gets published via email 3-4 days after each event. This is about 500 words & pics plus table of results.
Hope that helps.

Oh and have you both decided car plans for 2018? Howard ? turbo charging? Sandys? any new plans? The SC bearings started to fail in the last event so have just had it rebuilt & the mounting fixed as the welding was comically poor. Going to stick with it for another season till my brother starts to catch me up & then will TC it to mess with his head...

Oh and have you both decided car plans for 2018? Howard ? turbo charging? Sandys? any new plans? After my car failed its MOT on rust I've had a bit of a downer on it, I've been looking for a workshop to strip it but it's not been going well, car is SORN, untouched, unloved since August. Of course as the calendars have been dropping I'm feeling the urge to get back behind the wheel, just not sure what championship or in fact what discipline just yet, as I have done bugger all to the motor sprinting it again this year seems a little pointless, sure I had a scrappy year last year but I don't want to be going out for a few tenths on a PB. So if I go out sprinting it'll be to do mostly new venues, there are quite a few on the HSA roster I could make a season out of, maybe classic marques and acsmc is different enough too, not many proper venues here (ascmc) though, airfield stuff. Failing that I might signup for the BTRDA Autosolo championship as they've had a few changes for next year. In short...Dunno, but all the car is getting is tyres and perhaps a wash.

Is ty Croes an Anglesey sprint, I can't find info on what it is? That's a track I haven't done and want to visit.
The Classic marques website is well out of date, the oily rag is from 2016 I have asked for access to the facebook page, not sure why they want to hide all their info, how's a guy supposed to find out about it
