I decided that my daily drive (Jag X type) is a nice car but I'm now old enough and ugly enough to join the V8 club made the mistake of going to my friendly Independent Jag specialist to see what they had The S type R (4.2 supercharged) is now on its way!! Its not been prepped for sale yet so got to wait until first week of Jan but went for a test drive It has a performance exhaust and stage 1 remap - great noise 430bhp and nearly 600nm torque Luvverly

Yum.
I really would love the XJ with a similar engine.

Cheers chaps Looked at an XJ, very nice but bloody huge a fair bit longer than an s type, they had some low mileage JDM imports there with blacked out windows and shiny 19inch wheels, they reckon they are Yakuza cars!!!! Luckily I work from home and don't commute so I am not doing huge miles - I'm not expecting great fuel economy but on long runs it's not much worse then my 2.5 x type! I couldn't really justify a v8 as a commuter car!! Yes - will be fun on slippery roads!!!

I'm looking for a barge again at the moment, I've seen a few of these (just the bog standard 3.0 V6 ones mind), for very very cheap.
Then I looked at the insurance and apparently because jag it's more expensive than I want to pay.
My dad has an XJ Sport 4.0, that seriously shifts, LPG converted so it costs him sweet FA to run. Serious car for the money. I will never forget the day I borrowed it and it what coolant everywhere from the rear heater hose when I booted it. Had to climb into the engine bay to change it...!!
I'm going to look at a Saab Aero next week instead. I think that's a bad idea.

A 2.5 or 3.0 v6 X type is also a bargain and AWD i would recommend the manual because the 5 speed auto box is a bit old tech and lazy. The S type scores on having the better ZF auto but its a heavier car and doesnt reall get down the road much n=-better than the 2.5 X type Both X types and S types are loads of car for the money, my x type is about £200 pa to insure, the S type R on my multicar is about £300 - so not that expensive?? Being a MX5 owner i dont have to tell you this but check the sills - they rot on both models and are hidden by plastic covers so have a good dig about.
Jags are so much classier than Beemers and Audis!!!

My father had to have some serious sill work done on his (X300), as well as the window surround which was so rotten autoglass couldn't stick a new window in. Dunno why he has it really it probably does less than 2k miles a year!!!
Insurance quote for an s type 3litre was about 300 quid more than an MX5 surpsingly, any other barges come in at about the same so it must be Jag tax. But I am just the right side of 30 still. :-)
Any barge I get has to be auto. Missus only has an auto licence and we do a few trips to Cornwall and Belgium every year, long drives and in a Mk1 it's tiring. Not so bad in my mk2 but she can't drive that. :-(

Awesome choice Mr Stickers. My brother had one a few years back and he was kind enough to let me borrow it for the weekend and I feel in love. Its just subtle in its looks and only car people know what it is (if that makes sense) His was totally standard and still went like a scolded cat. Best part is that the S Type R has never lost value like falling of a cliff like its XJ big brother did, and if anything they now seem to be going up in value now. Merry Christmas too you indeed.
