My mk1 has been sitting in my freezing garage since november. The tyres have been losing pressure to varying degrees, one as much as 10lbs a week. Matey at Kwik Fit has offered to take the tyres off, sealant and new valves, all four wheels only £60 inc vat.
Sounds like a no brainer, but would you? They're wannabe mag alloys, so the pressure loss could be due to them being compromised in some way and there's Kwik Fit's excellent reputation to take into consideration too.

My local branch failed the MOT on my mrs car on the headlight adjusters not working. When I took it elsewhere to be tested it passed with minor headlight adjustment. (Which incidentally was adjusted with no problems!)
I complained and they refunded my fee with no problems.
I’d try an independent but it is worth noting I think Kwikfit operate franchises so not all are likely to be as bad as mine!

Funny that, I had my other car mot'd there yesterday, which is why i got chatting to them about the wheels. Anyway, they passed it with no advisories which is intersting 'cos they passed it a year with an advisory which i ignored, slight corrosion to rear brake pipes. Driving it for the past year must have removed this corrosion, who knew?

Fail it for something they can fix for cheap, or whatever they're in the mood for. I always used an ATS near my work for tyres, just because it was close. I swear they used to scatter nails at the junction outside, I was always getting a flat right before I drove past it. Always fixed it for £15 cash though...

you could get that done for 10 quid a tyre if you went elsewhere. I recommend trying a few "tyre guy with a vans" in your local area, or trying to find the more specialist tyre places. Merityre has for me been better than Kwikfit.

Shades of glazier with a few kids who are handy with rocks LOL. You wanna eat tonight kid ? First, make me some business.

They are all dodgy so find a dodgier place. Place near me are always helpful and usual payment is beer or wine. Wouldn't want to go there if I wasn't mechanically minded though.
I usually pay no more than a tenner a wheel for fitting, often as low as £30 for 4. It goes in the back pocket of the fitter anyway so depends on the mood they are in probably.

Kwik Fits are franchises which vary wildly in competence. There are good ones. Or so I hear. I won't darken the door of our local one again.
£60 to remove, re-valve and remount 4 tyres isn't hugely expensive but nor is it a particular bargain.

I used them a couple weeks ago. Cheap tyres and free fitting, a good service. They Let me stand in the workshop and watch. no problem getting the car up on the jack even tho its low, they drove it up on blocks straight away. They did a free exhaust check too as my exhausts been making horrible noises. Correctly diagnosed that issue for me. Had a good chat with them. I think its luck of the drawer. They had some young knowledgeable car guys there and they were enthusiastic about my car etc. I watched an mot too. They were extremely thorough. I wouldnt take mine there for an mot lol.

As stated above it is luck of the draw. Being in the motor trade myself you hear horror stories from customers, mostly how they fail mot's on trivial things and always seem to find something wrong to "upsell" to you.
What area are you based? Perhaps a member could recommend somewhere if you're local to someone.
