100mph vs 70mph....
The stopping distance from 70mph.
At that distance if you're stopping from 100mph instead... you're doing.. about 70mph.

My argument with this type of thing is there are loads of variables in real life so in practice none of this makes a difference. The 70mph driver could be my mum, probably wouldn't see the tree until she hit it even though she'd only be doing 20mph not 70mph 😂

I agree.
A number with no context means nothing, and any person driving properly should be paying attention enough to not need to emergency stop!
