Just coming back to this thread because it's service time - have they tested the black OEM filters yet? I was going to order from MX5Parts, given "Please note that these are not the European sourced Genuine Mazda filters that are actually made by Mahle which have a "9A" on the end of the part number. These are the proper, original, Japanese filters that were used at the factory.": www.mx5parts.co.uk/filter-genuine-mazda-mk1-25-p-231.html

Back in the 90s Fram had an awful reputation. Before inspection it was a running joke tat our garage hat if a car was leaking oil or rattling on startup it probably had a Fram filter fitted.
They might have upped their game, but I wouldn't use them then and I still won't use them now.

Interesting thread, thanks for posting. Does anyone have any insight regarding the K&N HP-1002 specifically around the claim that "Our oil filters also use a resin impregnated cellulose filter media. This allows for higher flow rates while providing outstanding filtration."Is there any merit in this regarding track use, or is it marketing BS? Cheers, Rich
