Started getting a very loud whine off throttle this week, I'm thinking its the diff, does it in all gears as well as in neutral, and gets louder/higher with increased road speed.
I've filmed a quick video to demonstrate, any opinions welcome before i jump the gun and buy a new diff...

When was the diff oil last changed? lol Admittedly not in my ownership so at least a year! π I've not had a minute free at all this week to even check the fluid, although I fear it's too late for fluid now lol

I don't think that's an internal diff thing, but maybe the shaft is making contact with some part of the ppf ? Suggest you take a look underneeth ! sounds like when weight/mass shifts... it makes the noise.

I agree with Alex. When the trans is unloaded (on the over run) sounds like something is allowing the prop shaft to move. Look at the diff mounts. Has the gear lever moved from itβs normal position or does it move at the same time the noise starts/stops? Change the diff oil anyway.

Iβd change diff AND gearbox oil. I had similar on a Peugeot 306 HDi and it was low gearbox oil. Box went boom because of it.

Cheers for the replies chaps, i managed to have a look under it this morning, found oil on the bottom of the casing, looks like its leaking from the propshaft end. Had no tools to drain whats left but id imagine its got bugger all! Noises have gotten worse by the minute to the point where I'm not driving it for fear it goes boom!

From what I understand the propshaft side is not as easily servicable, plus with the noise thats coming from it my guess is the damage is done and im better off throwing a new diff in, especially since i may have access to a free replacement diff

It sounds like you are looking for an excuse to swap some monster slippy diff in there lol Its so inconvenient not having the funds for a torsen right now π Its probably my poor attempts at skidz that have knackered it in the first place π
