Oh the irony of using a hairdryer to fix my MX5.... Just needed to heat a very tight rubber coolant hose to get it to fit...

Hi Howard. Looks good, coming along very nicely.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how much you can screw out of your turbo and more interesting to me How long you can hold onto that power throughout the rev range.
Regards. Rich.

Hi thruxton Nearly there with the basic set up. Just replacing a hose that was a little short/tight that I didn’t like the look of as it looked like it would be a potential source of unreliability. Got a contact who worked at Turbo Techics in Northampton- he says the TD04 is extremely tweakable... Loads of different bearings/compressors/turbines etc available. Have got a base map..

Have been unable to resist going for a cheeky start up & run. Hmmm, all was not well..... Extremely fumey (eye wateringly so), poor idle & very smokey. Then a friend of mine suggested that I check the vacume pipe to the ECU. As I hadn’t disconnected one, I thought all was fine- until I saw there was a T piece on the bit of pipe that I’d disconnected from the SC bypass valve.... Slaps forehead moment...
So, after connecting up the pipe, the car feels completely different. No fumes at all. Not running rich- cold idle is 1400rpm, hot idle is 1150 rpm but takes a few seconds to drop to it- more work required on that. Turbo spool starts at 2400rpm. I’ve not used more than 1/3 throttle at most 3000 rpm max under a slight load. I’ve yet to plumb in the recirculating pipe & the BOV Max Power hiss makes me laugh.
I do hate the light throttle though- without the 2nd throttle body spring, it’s ridiculously light. Another trip to Silverstone required...

A little progress- got a throttle spring from carbuildersolutions & with a bit of drilling + bending, have fitted it to where the 2nd throttle cable used to attach to the original.
Also, got booked in at BlackCat Motorsport for mapping in 3 weeks time.😁

Hmmmm, spot the difference...... I don’t mind a bit of ‘making things fit’ bodgery but one thing I won’t Coxswain about with is a submersed fuel pump’s wiring...

whats the issue? one has a plugged connection & the other has threadded terminals? shouldn't cause any issue or problem as long as you get the polarty correct Rich.

The std connector doesn’t fit. Really not comfortable with bodging it to make it work. I’ve found a different supplier for the same pump that comes with a connector & lead- Temple Tuning in Bristol.
If anyone wants the part number it’s GSS250 which is a Walbro 190 Pump that’ll work with the std fuel pressure regulator.

Swapped the injectors this evening. Another pain in the rear canoe job but it’s done now. Dropped the fuel rail spacers into the bottom of the engine bay, that was a laugh to find them......

Thanks Zed., too obvious at the time... Never mind, next time I do it... Had a cheeky start & after a couple to non starts with the injector relay pulled to get the fuel system full & pressurised, the MX5 started first time. Really pleased.

Hi Howard. I don't know who's more excited about all this, you or me!
It's coming together well I'm really looking forward to the dyno run graph. I'm still undecided as to what to do, you know the situation. But it's changed again.
I've just bought a Maserati Granturismo, OMG!
Regards. Rich.

Rich. thruxton , those Maserati’s are certainly a handsome vehicle- congratulations. How’s the house project coming along? Zed. the recirculating BOV is now fully plumbed in, so it a lot more stealthy than before.
