Looks great Would you be happy to share the workshop name and/or ballpark cost? Yeah it was a small shop just north of Aylesbury called EMS, no website just a phone number and an old boy in a tiny work shop and loads of engines. £80 cash, well worth it.

I started putting the head back together last night, followers, camshafts, cam bearings and new cam seals. Like an idiot I labels two of the cam bearings '14' so that caused a bit of a head ache but I think I figured it out. Now I just need to get some silicone sealant for the corners then torque it all down.
I must remember to label things better. I'm trying not to worry about the engine loom, I didn't label anything. I'm hoping all the pictures will suffice.

Yeah, that's what I was relying on, hoping they size of plugs and aged bends etc would make it easy. But then I remind myself I've never done this before. Canoe it, it'll be easy!

Over the last few evenings I've managed to get everything back together, and it runs.
All wiring and hoses are connected again except for one. The FB mk1 group seems to think this is the coolant overflow pipe, this may be correct but it's not what it was used for prior to me taking it off. I've found one picture where I can see it running under the intake manifold around the back of the block but I'm not sure where it goes. It's this large blue pipe pictured below. Any ideas where it goes? There are no coolant leaks when running so not sure what it could be!? Any ideas? Some reason my images are not uploading I'll try and attach instead
The next thing I have to do is sort out the timing (not sure what is best with a 1mm skim? any ideas?) Tidy the engine bay, flush and change coolant, change some ball joint boots and then go for the MOT before I prep it for a track car. Getting excited now.

Can't wait to see the results, thanks for the recommendation, stee1e!
