I’ve loitered for a while on most sites but never really done an intro so please bare with me.
I’ve had numerous cars in the past including a mk2.5 and mk3 Mx5 but in November last year I picked up a k plate mk1 1.6 s-special as a bit of a daily driving project....... the project turned out to be rather more than I expected!
Originally I was going to do a restore to 100% stock s-special but trying to get the car to drive really well while still being 100% stock turned out to be an impossible task. Once I had decided it was a keeper and not a car I was going to sell after the refurb I set about making it the way I wanted.
I won’t bore you all with all of the details but the car has now had:
1.8 Torsen diff and shafts
New calipers discs and pads all round
New roof to original pattern
Clutch inc master and slave cylinders
Full bbs wheel refurb
Meisterr crd coilovers inc geometry by tony at wheels in motion
Borla catback, silenced decat and maxim works 4-2-1 manifold
Panasonic battery
Wideband
Jackson racing cold air intake
Rs style front splitter
Detangoed
Air con delete
Gcf bracing in cockpit and front chassis
Jass performance chassis rail reinforcements
Panels removed, rust checked and then Undersealed
Stereo delete (after many miles of trying to find an original stereo I gave up and removed the lot)
Lotus Elise seats
Fluid change, washer jet and hose repkacement
Smaller steering wheel and changed gearknob after having the original nardi items refurbed beautifully (both on eBay for sale)
Many cosmetic tweaks and changes inside.
This project will never end it seems but the results are becoming increasingly rewarding.
