Time to try this magic additive then! I am surrounded by BPs so got the 5 mapped on BP. The Stagea I run on BP as well... tried the Tesco but it didn’t get along (I understand they use ethanol to boost the octane rating and the car isn’t set up for it). It actually runs best on Shell. MPG wise: Tesco - 20-22 BP - 24-26 Shell - 26-28
Quite a big difference between fuels!

Hmm. Same sort of experience with my previous Mk.1 with MP62: equally good on Shell or Tesco, pinked on BP.

I usually fill up with Tescos finest, found myself miles from anywhere so put in a tank of BP Ultimate, seems to behave the same. 2.0 ND

My standard tune MK2.5 was happy running 95 for the most part. martinpw what does your booklet say about fuel feeding instructions ? Do they just say unleaded ? I know some BMWs have a sign saying "use only 98ron or better".

Both the Mini and the Mk3 Mx5 are mapped on Vpower. You can feel both pulling the timing on anything that isn’t pukka super unleaded.

I know some Tailgate McNoIndicates have a sign saying "use only 98ron or better". Sticker inside the filler lid says use super unleaded, book of words says Premium unleaded fuel conforming to EN 228 and within E 10, octane number 95 or above.

Put in a tankful of Shell V-power today, doesn't seem any different. Going back to Tescos finest next, it's a lot cheaper!

Refilling with momentum tomorrow, will brim it and get normal mpg figure. I shall then add the magic additive (before filling) and see how we get on, if it increases the octane by 2 points I should be able to advance the timing a bit. More power!!

Local Tesco got momentum so I brimmed it, 33.19 to the gallon! Not bad, motorways and thrashing about. Additive in, will report back

Can't speak for later models but I compiled years of mpg data for my previous Mk.1, both normally aspirated and supercharged, and can confidently say that brand and octane made absolutely bugger all difference to fuel economy. While NA, supermarket 95RON was just as good as premium brand high octane stuff with secret cleaning ingredients, tested over multiple fillups with each.
All that made a detectable difference to my 25 miles each way commute was summer vs winter (1-2 mpg better in warm weather) and school holidays which reduced traffic jams (maybe another 1 mpg).

No1 son swears by Tesco jungle juice. He reckons his Integra TypeR isnt'happy on anything else. Suffice to say it gave it enough oomph to scare a certain souped up Mini recently at Combe

I bow to your thoroughness! lol
I do write down my mileage on each receipt but never get round to actually putting it into a spreadsheet...
It was a depressing large pile of receipts that I took out of the car a couple of weeks ago - must have been a year's worth, about an inch deep!
