Ever since fitting a supercharger to my 92 1.6 I have filled up with Tesco momentum, no problems, it’s run perfectly. Last week, flush with my state pension and no doubt suffering from a mixture of the sun and cold beer, I filled up with BP ultimate, calamity! Pinking when I accelerated in fourth and fifth (never happened before) and an erratic idle with stall on hot start. Hours have been spent digging around in tunerstudio, checking fuelling and timing, all was well, but the car was prarrie canoe. Today I refilled with the old faithful Tesco momentum, boundless joy! the car is transformed, no more pinking,(despite deliberately trying to induce it) and it idles like a watch again, hot start problem has gone.... The moral of this tale? expensive isn’t always best.

Most BP fuels are overpriced anyway. BPU is 97 so "barely" SUL.. SUL only starts at 98ron in my book. What was your car mapped on ?
I tend to get my cars mapped on slightly old or sub-par fuel (mixed BP SUL with V-power or months-old V-power) just so I feel safe in a pinch.

I recall discussing with Skuzzle, he said basically the best in the country is shell, and I recall him saying maybe the tesco momentum/99 as second-best. After doing some long distance driving with less-than-ideal fuel options on the journey, I've successfully used Millers Ecomax octane booster. Trick I learnt from Americans who would run JDM vehicles on the often even worse US fuel - doubling the dosage to turn 95 into 99. (this stuff www.millersoils.co.uk/products/petrol-power-ecomax/105) - had no problems. Given how much it treats I think it is actually underpriced for an octane booster.

I mapped it myself on Tesco momentum Another vote here for the Tesco premium stuff. Also use Shell Vpower if I can’t find Momentum. I stand to be corrected but they’re the 2 fuels that are readily available with the highest RON?

This thread has been going since Adam was a lad, and there's never been any conclusive evidence to say one is better than the other.
When I had my Focus RS Mk2, I thought it ran better on the Tescos. My mate on the other hand was convinced the V Power was better in his car.
It was only months later when we discovered that my car had been mapped on Tesco's 99 by (Mountune), and his car had been mapped on V power by (Collins)
So there you have it. Try them both, and see which suites your car. Consensus seems to be that the Shell has more cleaning agents added, and that the Momentum has more ethanol added so is a higher ron.

Nick said the same to me, shell stuff is best, however mine was mapped with Tesco 99, and it brought up 280hp. I always use either Tesco 99 or v power. But I too use the milers ecomax booster and not only am I getting around 400km per tank (300 without it) but also get a bit more power, essentially turning a 99RON fuel into 100+RON.

How have you measured your consumption, brim to brim or with a Ouija board?

How have you measured your consumption, brim to brim or with a Ouija board? Ever time I visit the fuel station it’s a brim job right the the top, and my driving is very consistent all week long (I fill up every 4-5 days), same roads, same traffic, same speed roughly.
