So if Nutz is truly dead then I guess I should probably take this all a bit more seriously.
Does anyone know how to get a ProBoards site to feature in the google search results? If you search Mx5 forum we don’t not even come up! Lol.

I like the informality on here, do we really need the pretentiousness of some of the posters on nutz? Not knocking the site, it was a great source of information.

I did mention this about 6 months ago I've added some to the forum wrapper now.. <meta name="keywords" content="mighty5s,mx5,mx5 forum,mighty5s forum, mazda, mazda mx5,roadster,eunos,eunos roadster,miata,5fest,mx5 forum uk,mx5 uk,uk"> This alone might be enough to improve the google ranking. If we were piss-takers we'd put other forum names in ours but no

Main issue you will have on moving this forward is it’s not a standalone site only one of many, many thousands of forums hosted by Proboards. All the major forums out there are hosted on their own domain.

Some inlinking might work some, if anyone has a blog or their own page anywhere, it might be useful to stick links in to various parts of the site. Particularly on pages that talk about mx5s and eunoses and stuff. SEO evolves constantly and the more 'honest' a link in some text seems the better it is likely to perform. Link stuffing usually blows the thing open and downranks the site. I'm going to make a wee page on my blog, link to my thread and to the main page of this site and maybe that'll help a wee bit.

If we were piss-takers we'd put other forum names in ours but no Don’t believe this method is relevant anymore mate: ”What about using meta tag keywords? In the past, using meta keywords would result in your forum being indexed for whatever words you placed in the tag. Unfortunately, this system was abused: websites began using the keywords tag to spam keywords, which lead to search results becoming irrelevant. A website about cars, for example, could insert the word "dog" in their keywords tag, and would eventually begin appearing in searches for "dog". Because of this, meta keywords are obsolete. Google hasn't used them since 2009, Yahoo does not assign much importance to them for ranking purposes, and Bing uses the presence of keywords as a factor in flagging websites as spam. While meta keywords can still be placed on your forum, they can be (and frequently are) counterproductive to your search result goals.”

Yes fair point, outlinks are also important. it makes a site look more and more like it's part of the web, rather than trying to bully its way in.
I'm slightly (pleasantly, especially since I don't have an account on it) surprised that these forums are still awesome and haven't vanished into the farceboke kitten and baby picture hole.

Oh dear re: tags. Well, I'll leave them in for the moment. Hopefully they don't cause trouble. Horney - I've renamed the "forum title" to "Mighty5s UK MX5 Forum" - where previously it was just the first word. This might help make it a bit more obvious to search engines too. Obviously the best thing is word of mouth spread, which is how this forum started out, and how it hasn't turned to poo yet. It was made to address the shortcomings in Nutz, where traders were treated badly and the users treated worse if they made a mistake in a for sale ad :-) If you want to help at a linking level, put up a build thread and link it from some other forums signatures, as I have done. That, at least, is relatively organic.
