Looking on getting new shoes all round on the 2.5 - looking at either of these but open to other options?
These are both coming in around 250 fitted for 4...
It’s my daily so needs to be nice in the wet on the motorway but also a hoon as and when I can 😉

You should be able to get rainsports fitted for 210 and pilotsports fitted for 250. Judging by blackcircles. Get them mail ordered....
Your local tyre shop should charge about 10 quid to fit and balance and a quid to discard the old tyres.
Have you considered kumho ecsta HS51 - but they're also a great tyre and a lot of tyre for the money and perform very well in the wet too.
The rainsports compromise, from what I've read, is that they sacrafice mileage for grip. The pilotsports should last longer and probably be a better all-round tyre.
The pilotsports are definitely the better tyre.

Rainsports have soft sidewalls AIUI.
PS3 have been great on mine - grip like a bastard and therefore apparently idiot-proof, so ideal for a RWD n00b like me!

I put 4 rainsports on my Mk 1. They seemed ok so I also put a set on my daily Kia Ceed Sportswagon. The fronts lasted around 25k IIRC. The rears still had plenty of tread left but went uneven making it sound like a bearing had gone. These were swapped under guarantee around 3 months ago. Still haven't heard from Uniroyal so the tyre place is out of pocket as it stands. Cam Tyres in GL11 if you're in the area, can't fault the service. Back to MX5 land I also refurbished a set of alloys and had PS3's fitted. These seem a quieter tyre but I haven't done many miles on either set to really form an opinion. Just to confuse the matter I switched the rears back to Rainsports for the last Autosolo intending to wear them out in preference to the dearer PS3's but didn't get too much breaking of traction. In fact that's how the car still is, as I've been too lazy to switch them back.
TL:DR I think I prefer the PS3's, and really should get my finger out and have matching wheels and tyres again
